Hotel Laguna

I was married at the gazebo in front of Las Brisas 20 years ago..want to come back out to celebrate our anniversary this September. I know the hotel was revamped, but it looks like just restaurants are open and not the actual hotel to stay at. Any information on this? I called and left a message today, but haven't heard anything at this time. Any other hotels similar in the area with a similar vibe?

Thanks,

Shannon

Hi Shannon — great question, and congratulations on your anniversary! What a special place to return to.

Here’s the current situation regarding Hotel Laguna and some lovely alternative hotels in the area with a similar coastal, romantic vibe.

What’s going on with Hotel Laguna?

- According to the Laguna Beach city planning department, Hotel Laguna has been under restoration for a number of years. The hotel originally closed at the end of 2017. Although there has been a 99-year lease agreement in place (with plans to restore rooms, the lobby, and other facilities), the renovation is still in progress.

- Their official site confirms that construction is still underway. While their restaurants and bar are open, the guest rooms are *not yet available for booking.*

- There are also recent permitting and design review updates. That suggests restoration is ongoing, but not fully complete (or at least not fully reopened).

So, based on available information, it seems unlikely that you’ll be able to stay at Hotel Laguna this September — it's not fully back in operation for guestrooms yet.

Alternative Hotels in Laguna Beach with a Similar Vibe

Here are some nearby hotels that capture the charm, coastal aesthetic, and boutique feel that you likely loved about Hotel Laguna (or Las Brisas area), and would make a lovely anniversary stay:
  • Casa Loma Beach Hotel (formerly The Inn at Laguna Beach): This is a beautifully renovated boutique hotel perched on the cliffs, with ocean views, an elegant yet laid-back atmosphere, and very walkable to downtown Laguna Beach.
  • The Ranch at Laguna Beach: Offers a tranquil, nature-oriented stay in a coastal canyon setting. It’s eco-friendly (recognized by Surfrider Foundation) and gives that “relaxing, ocean-connected but quiet” feel.

My Recommendation: Since Hotel Laguna’s rooms are not open, I’d suggest booking Casa Loma Beach Hotel for your anniversary. It’s luxurious, historic, romantic, and very much in line with the coastal charm of Laguna. The Ranch is also a lovely secondary option if you want a more secluded, nature-y retreat. Either hotel would capture the spirit of your original wedding location while offering a beautiful, relaxing getaway.

Wishing you a wonderful anniversary trip — and I hope you find the perfect place to celebrate!
