Favorite Restaurant for Southern Cooking?

Hello TA! We’re staying in Duluth and wanted to hear about your favorite places for southern cooking. We’ve already been to Mary Macs. Delicious! Any others? We’re willing to drive out of Duluth. Thank you!

If you enjoyed Mary Mac's, you're definitely in for a treat when exploring more Southern cuisine in the Atlanta area! Here are some of the top spots for Southern cooking that you may want to check out, ranging from classic comfort food to upscale takes on the cuisine:

  • South City Kitchen (Midtown or Vinings) – Known for its elevated Southern classics, South City Kitchen is a great choice for fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and biscuits. Their brunch is particularly popular.
  • The Colonnade – This is another Atlanta institution, serving hearty Southern fare like fried chicken, meatloaf, and their famous cornbread. It has a nostalgic vibe and is beloved by locals.
  • Busy Bee Cafe – Located in the historic Old Fourth Ward, Busy Bee has been serving up Southern comfort food since 1947. The fried chicken and collard greens are crowd favorites!
  • Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q – For some Southern barbecue, Fox Bros. offers mouthwatering ribs, brisket, and smoked meats. Their sides are just as delicious, and it's one of the best barbecue joints in town.
  • Low Country Cuisine – A great place for a more casual and local feel, Low Country offers dishes like gumbo, fried catfish, and low-country boils. A hidden gem for some Southern seafood.
  • The Varsity – If you’re in the mood for a casual, fast-food Southern experience, The Varsity in Midtown offers classic Southern drive-in fare, like hot dogs, burgers, and fries.

All of these places offer a distinct take on Southern cuisine, from the classic comfort food at The Colonnade to the more refined Southern dishes at South City Kitchen. They’re definitely worth the drive from Duluth!
