Anything similar to Cabbage Island Clambake?
My family is arriving in Portland for vacation on Aug 8 (primarily in/near Acadia). Just discovered Cabbage Island Clambake during online search of things to do between Portland and Acadia. It sounded perfect for an experience for us ... but already booked up 6+ weeks out. Anything similar to this in the area?
It’s unfortunate that the Cabbage Island Clambake is already booked, but there are other wonderful clambake and lobster boil experiences you can enjoy in the area between Portland and Acadia. Here are a few alternatives that offer similar experiences with seafood, stunning views, and traditional Maine hospitality:
- Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster Company (South Freeport): This iconic spot is a great alternative if you want a traditional lobster bake experience. You can dine on a deck overlooking the water while enjoying fresh lobster, steamers, corn, and more. It's a laid-back, no-frills spot, perfect for a traditional Maine lobster experience.
- Bar Harbor Lobster Company (Bar Harbor): If you are heading closer to Acadia, Bar Harbor Lobster Company offers fresh lobster and clams in a similar style to Cabbage Island. They often offer takeout, or you can enjoy it at picnic tables near the water. The casual atmosphere makes it a great choice for a family meal.
- Beech Hill Farm Lobster Bake (Rockport): Beech Hill Farm offers a similar farm-to-table lobster bake experience, where guests can enjoy a traditional Maine lobster bake in a scenic setting. The farm also offers beautiful views and a relaxed outdoor environment for your meal. You can enjoy Maine lobster, clams, corn, and potatoes, with the possibility of live music and other local entertainment.
- Clambakes on the Boat (Bar Harbor and Acadia area): If you want a more intimate and scenic experience, consider a clambake on a boat. Some local companies offer boat tours with a traditional clambake on board. These tours often include scenic views of the coastline, islands, and Acadia National Park. It’s a fun and unique way to enjoy seafood while taking in the beauty of Maine’s coastline.
- Schoodic Peninsula Lobster Bake (Acadia National Park): On the Schoodic Peninsula, there are occasional lobster bake events where you can enjoy fresh lobster in a secluded, natural setting. It’s less crowded than other parts of Acadia, and some of the local tours offer special group packages that include lobster and clams served in the traditional Maine style.
For something a bit different but equally iconic, you could also consider a lobster boat tour where you can see how lobsters are caught and then enjoy a fresh lobster meal right on the boat. Many local companies in the Acadia and Bar Harbor area offer this kind of experience. It's educational and fun, and you can experience the Maine coast in a more hands-on way.
Although Cabbage Island Clambake is a special place, these alternatives should provide a similar memorable experience for you and your family. Enjoy your trip to Maine!
