Swimming Beaches and Bike Rentals
We are staying at the Godfrey. Can you please recommend a beach to swim at? We would also like to bike the Lakefront trail. Who do you recommend we rent bikes from?
Thank you!
Sara
Hi Sara! It sounds like you're going to have a fantastic time in Chicago! Here's some info to help you make the most of your trip:
Swimming Beaches Near the Godfrey Hotel:
Chicago has a few great spots along Lake Michigan where you can swim and enjoy the beach. The closest beach options to the Godfrey are:
- Oak Street Beach: Just a short ride or walk from the Godfrey, Oak Street Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the city. It has plenty of space, lifeguards, and a beautiful view of the city skyline. The water can be a bit chilly, but it's a great spot to swim on a warm day!
- North Avenue Beach: Located a little further north, North Avenue Beach is also a very popular spot for locals and tourists alike. It offers a sandy beach with volleyball courts, and it's a great place to relax and swim. You can rent bikes or enjoy a walk along the nearby promenade.
- Montrose Beach: If you're looking for a slightly quieter and less crowded beach, Montrose Beach, located further north, is a great option. It has a large sandy area, and you can also find a dog-friendly section if you're traveling with pets. Swimming is allowed here, and it's a beautiful place to spend the day.
Biking the Lakefront Trail:
The Lakefront Trail is a beautiful and scenic way to explore the city by bike. It runs for 18 miles along the shoreline, offering stunning views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Here are a few bike rental recommendations:
- Divvy Bikes: Chicago’s bike-sharing program, Divvy, is a great and affordable option. You can easily rent bikes for a few hours or a day from one of their many stations, including one near the Godfrey Hotel. Divvy bikes are easy to use, and you can hop on and off as you ride along the trail.
- Bike and Roll Chicago: If you're looking for a more personalized bike rental experience, Bike and Roll Chicago offers a variety of bikes for rent. They have different locations around the city, including one near Navy Pier. They also offer guided tours if you're interested in learning more about Chicago's history and architecture while biking.
- Booth’s Bikes: Booth's Bikes is another great local option. They offer quality rentals, including city bikes and hybrids, and they are conveniently located near the Lakefront Trail. You can rent bikes by the hour or for the day.
Enjoy biking along the beautiful Lakefront Trail and swimming at one of Chicago's beaches!
