Architectural boat tour

We are planning to visit May 16-20. Hoping to do boat tour on the Friday. I see that there is a May fest on that day as well. Should we book boat tour in advance, given that it might be busy?

Thank you!

Your trip to Chicago sounds fantastic! The architectural boat tours along the Chicago River are a great way to see the city's famous skyline and learn about its history. In May, Chicago starts to see more visitors as the weather warms up, and there are several events happening around that time, including the May Fest you mentioned. This could make the area busier than usual, especially on a Friday.

It’s definitely a good idea to book your boat tour in advance. While you may still find availability if you decide to book last minute, pre-booking ensures you get your preferred time slot, especially since Fridays are popular for tourists and locals alike. This is especially important if you are looking to tour during peak times, as the boat tours can fill up quickly during busy weekends and special events like May Fest.

  • Why book in advance? Booking ahead guarantees your spot, especially if you're aiming for a specific time. During the May Fest, the crowds can be larger, and boat tours can sell out, particularly in the afternoon and early evening when the weather is ideal for sightseeing.
  • When to go? If possible, try booking your tour earlier in the day (before May Fest gets fully underway) or later in the evening. These times might be slightly less crowded.
  • Tour options: There are various architectural boat tours in Chicago, including those from companies like the Chicago Architecture Foundation and Shoreline Sightseeing. Both have highly rated tours, but booking early will help ensure you get the tour you want, whether it's a classic architecture tour or a special themed tour.

In short, yes, I would recommend booking your boat tour in advance to avoid disappointment and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, especially given the May Fest crowds. Enjoy your time in Chicago!
