Fairfield Inn or Springhill Suites/Historic Dist/Downtown
I searched the Forum but the info I found is many years old. We are deciding between these two Marriott brands--Springhill Suites on Oglethorpe and Fairfield Inn & Suites on MLK--which are just minutes apart. I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on one over the other...location, rooms, service, breakfast or anything else that might sway us one way or another. Thank you.
Both the Fairfield Inn & Suites on MLK and the Springhill Suites on Oglethorpe are solid options, and each has its own advantages. Since they are both located within a few minutes of each other in Savannah, the choice often comes down to personal preferences regarding location, amenities, and overall experience. Here’s a breakdown of each option:
- Fairfield Inn & Suites (on MLK Boulevard)
- Location: The Fairfield Inn is located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, which is a bit further from the riverfront and the core of the Historic District. It’s a short drive or a longer walk to the main attractions, but this means it’s generally quieter, with less foot traffic around the hotel.
- Rooms: The rooms are modern and comfortable, typically a bit more spacious with basic amenities like mini-fridges and microwaves. Fairfield Inns are known for their consistency in room quality, making them a reliable choice for a comfortable stay.
- Breakfast: The breakfast offering is usually standard for a Fairfield Inn – a continental breakfast with hot items like eggs, sausage, and waffles. It’s a good start to the day, though it may not be as extensive or gourmet as other options.
- Service: Service is typically friendly and attentive, as you’d expect from a Marriott brand. Guests have noted that the staff at the Fairfield Inn is helpful, and the hotel has a cozy, no-frills atmosphere.
- Springhill Suites (on Oglethorpe Avenue)
- Location: The Springhill Suites is on Oglethorpe Avenue, which places it right in the heart of the Historic District. You’ll be closer to the riverfront, shops, restaurants, and historic squares. This makes it a more ideal location for walking to major attractions, if you plan to explore the area on foot.
- Rooms: Rooms at the Springhill Suites tend to be more spacious, especially with the suite setup (separate living and sleeping areas), making it ideal for families or guests who prefer more room. The décor is modern, and you’ll find slightly more upscale touches compared to the Fairfield Inn.
- Breakfast: The breakfast at Springhill Suites is generally considered a bit better, with more variety, including a mix of hot and cold items. Springhill Suites typically offers more selection and better quality breakfast options.
- Service: Service at the Springhill Suites is also well-rated, with guests appreciating the friendly and efficient staff. Being located closer to the heart of Savannah’s Historic District, it’s often seen as a slightly more convenient choice for tourists.
Summary:
- If location is a big factor for you, the Springhill Suites on Oglethorpe is the more central option and is ideal for tourists who want to be within walking distance of the best parts of the Historic District.
- If you prefer a quieter stay and don’t mind being a little further from the riverfront, the Fairfield Inn on MLK Boulevard offers a more budget-friendly option with larger rooms and a peaceful setting.
In the end, both hotels provide comfortable accommodations, but the Springhill Suites may offer more convenience and extra space if you’re looking to be in the thick of the action. If you’re looking for a quieter experience and don’t mind a short drive or walk to the attractions, the Fairfield Inn is a great option as well.
