Is there massive crowds on Huashan at end of September?

May I know if 26 September (Friday) is a good day for visiting Huashan without massive crowds? Was worried about whether that date is too close to the National Week holiday starting 1st October.

Thank you

Visiting Mount Huashan on 26 September (Friday) is generally a good choice if you want to avoid the largest crowds, as it falls just before China’s National Day Golden Week, which begins on 1 October. Most domestic travelers start their holidays around 28–30 September, so the heaviest travel surge usually starts from the evening of 30 September and peaks during 1–4 October.

That said, the days immediately before the holiday week can still see a slight increase in visitors, especially if 26 September is near a weekend or if schools and workplaces have adjusted schedules to create a longer break. However, it will still be much less crowded than the Golden Week itself.

To make the most of your trip and reduce your time waiting in queues for cable cars or trail sections, consider the following suggestions:

  • Start your hike or cable car ride as early as possible in the morning, preferably before 8 a.m.
  • If you plan to take the West Peak cable car, book tickets in advance to avoid long waits.
  • Avoid weekends or any dates that coincide with local holidays or school trips.
  • Stay overnight near the base town of Huashan (Huayin City) so you can reach the mountain early the next day.

Weather at the end of September in Huashan is typically pleasant—cool mornings, mild afternoons, and clear visibility—making it an excellent time for hiking and photography. You might encounter more visitors on scenic platforms during midday, but the trails themselves are usually manageable.

In summary, 26 September is still considered a good day to visit Huashan. You’ll avoid the Golden Week rush and benefit from favorable weather. Just plan an early start and purchase your tickets ahead of time for a smoother experience.
