Multi stop transportation
We’re staying at the Plymouth at south beach and want to visit wynwood walls, superblue and little Havana. As they’re relatively close together I thought we would do them in one day and I was wondering if there was easy public transportation to these places? We will have a car but thinking that may be more of a hassle trying to find parking.
I also actually wondered about dropping the car to the airport early or leaving it at a parking garage away from south beach that might be cheaper after we do an Everglades trip so any suggestions would be welcomed also.
Thank you
It sounds like you have a fun day planned with visits to Wynwood Walls, Superblue, and Little Havana! Here's some advice on public transportation options, as well as tips for parking and car rental during your trip:
Public Transportation to Wynwood Walls, Superblue, and Little Havana:
Miami has some decent public transportation options, and since these locations are relatively close together, you can definitely make use of it to avoid parking hassles. Here are your best options:
- Public Transit Bus:
- For Wynwood Walls and Superblue: You can take the Miami-Dade Metrobus Route 32 or 15, which has stops near Wynwood and provides easy access to the area. Wynwood is also accessible from South Beach by taking a bus along Biscayne Boulevard or through a transfer at a major stop like the MetroMover station. The ride takes approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic.
- For Little Havana: From Wynwood or Superblue, take a bus or a short Uber ride to Little Havana (approximately 10 minutes). Miami’s Route 8 bus will get you to Little Havana from downtown or other parts of the city.
- MetroRail and MetroMover:
- The MetroRail is another good option if you're willing to switch lines. From South Beach, you can take a bus or short Uber to the nearest MetroRail station, then hop on a train to get closer to Little Havana and Wynwood (via transfers).
- The MetroMover is free and useful in the downtown area. It won't directly serve Wynwood or Little Havana, but it's worth using to connect to other public transit lines.
- Ridesharing (Uber/Lyft): If you're looking for the most convenience and a direct route, using a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft will take you from South Beach to each of the destinations in around 15-20 minutes. This is more affordable than parking, especially considering the potential difficulty of finding parking near these busy attractions.
Overall, public transportation in Miami is a decent option, but depending on your schedule and preferences, ridesharing may offer the most direct, hassle-free experience.
Parking and Car Rental Tips:
It’s a great idea to consider leaving the car somewhere outside South Beach to save on parking fees. Here are some options:
- Parking Near the Airport: If you plan to return the car to the airport before your Everglades trip, you can leave it in long-term parking at Miami International Airport (MIA), which tends to be more affordable than parking in South Beach. Miami Airport has both short- and long-term parking options, with rates generally lower than those at most hotel parking garages in South Beach.
- Parking Away from South Beach: Consider parking at a garage outside of South Beach and using public transportation or ridesharing to get to your attractions. Some more affordable parking options are located in neighborhoods like Downtown Miami or Coconut Grove, and you can take public transport or a quick Uber to get to South Beach and the other spots. The Parkopedia app is useful for finding cheaper parking garages in Miami.
- Returning the Car Early: If you’re done with the car and just want to explore by public transit or rideshare, consider dropping it off at a rental location near your hotel or at the airport before your Everglades trip. This will save you time and money, as you won’t need to pay for parking in South Beach while you’re enjoying the local sights.
Recommendation: If you’re not too concerned about time and prefer to keep things economical, using public transportation and Uber for the specific attractions could be a great option. You can leave your car outside of South Beach at a cheaper garage or even near the airport, making it easier to enjoy your trip without worrying about expensive parking. Enjoy your Miami Beach adventure!
