Have narrowed it down to these two..would be booking balcony rooms …the Hilton is about $200 more for 3 nites .Which has the best location ? We will be there in early October so it will be still hot …don’t want to walk more than I need to.. All input appreciated
Both the Renaissance Historic Downtown and the Hilton Bayfront Historic are excellent options in St. Augustine, and your decision largely depends on how much you value location and views versus overall cost. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:
Location Comparison:
Balcony Views: If having a balcony with a view is important to you, both hotels offer great options. However, given the Hilton’s prime location on the bay, you’ll likely get better waterfront views here, with views of the Castillo de San Marcos and the bay itself. The Renaissance offers balcony rooms as well, but they may overlook the city or the historic district rather than the bay.
Walking Distance & Heat in October: Considering that it will still be warm in early October, both hotels are conveniently located for walking to major sites, but if you prefer to avoid too much walking, the Hilton Bayfront might be a better option. From the Hilton, you can easily access the waterfront and nearby attractions without much walking. The Renaissance, while central, may require a bit more walking to reach the bayfront or waterfront areas in the heat.
Cost Considerations: You mentioned that the Hilton is about $200 more for 3 nights. This price difference is likely due to its superior waterfront location and views, which are a premium in St. Augustine. If the bayfront views and proximity to the water are worth the extra cost to you, it’s a solid choice. However, if you’re looking to save a bit, the Renaissance is still centrally located with easy access to historic attractions and will give you a great experience, just with slightly less of the waterfront charm.
Overall Recommendation:
Both hotels are wonderful options, so it depends on your preference for location and views versus cost. Either way, you’ll be in a prime spot to explore the best of St. Augustine!
