Halloween

Hiya! My family are coming for 2 weeks on 22nd October. We’ll be doing Disney & Universal whilst we are here but wondered what’s best to do on Halloween? We don’t have tickets for Mickeys not so scary Halloween party but also been recommended to go to Celebration for trick or treating but also read it’s chaos there. My kids are 4 & 10. Many thanks

Sounds like you're going to have a fun time in Orlando! Halloween in the area is a blast, and while the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Disney is a popular option, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the spooky season with your kids, especially since you have a mix of younger and older children. Here are some other Halloween activities to consider:

  • Celebration Trick-or-Treating: Celebration, the beautiful community just outside of Disney, is well-known for its Halloween festivities. While it can get crowded, it’s still a fun option for families with young kids. The neighborhood goes all-out with decorations, and kids can trick-or-treat in a safe, themed environment. If you decide to go, it’s best to arrive early to avoid the biggest crowds and to get the full experience without the chaos. It’s also a great opportunity for some fun photo ops!
  • Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights: While this event is more geared toward older kids and adults (due to its intense and spooky content), Universal also has some kid-friendly activities during the day leading up to the Halloween Horror Nights event. If your 10-year-old is okay with a little scare, they may enjoy the atmosphere of the park at night with spooky decorations and characters roaming around.
  • Local Pumpkin Patches & Fall Festivals: A more relaxed Halloween experience might be found at a local pumpkin patch or fall festival. Many farms and venues in Central Florida offer pumpkin patches, hayrides, corn mazes, and fall-themed activities that are perfect for younger children. Check out places like Long & Scott Farms (near Mount Dora) for a fun, family-friendly day out. These types of events often provide a more chill atmosphere compared to crowded theme parks.
  • Disney Springs Halloween Activities: If you're already spending time at Disney, be sure to visit Disney Springs for some Halloween fun. While it doesn’t have a full-on Halloween event, there are often special Halloween-themed activities, decorations, and character meet-and-greets during October. They also usually offer trick-or-treating in a more relaxed, family-friendly environment. Disney Springs can be a nice place to enjoy the Halloween season without the high-energy crowds at the parks.
  • Halloween at ICON Park: ICON Park, home to The Wheel, also gets into the Halloween spirit with kid-friendly events like trick-or-treating, themed rides, and spooky character appearances. The atmosphere is fun and more laid-back, so it might be a great option for younger kids.

In addition to these options, don’t forget to check out the Halloween decorations at the various resorts around Disney and Universal. Many resorts, especially Disney resorts, go all out with their own Halloween decorations, and it can be fun to just walk around and take in the sights without any extra cost.

Since your kids are 4 and 10, you’ll want to focus on activities that are fun and spooky without being too scary. Most of the above suggestions cater to a wide range of ages, so they should all be enjoyable for your family! Have a magical (and spooky!) time in Orlando!
