What can we do for a day around Ogunquit and Kennebunk.
We're staying at the Cliff House in Cape Neddick for two nights, one complete day, and are having dinner at the White Barn Inn in Kennebunk. I'd like suggestions for things to see during that day. Also recommendations for lunch.
P.S. - No matter what I did, "day" in my Subject showed up as "ddy," even if I retyped the whole sentence, or pasted "day" in that spot. Ideas???
If you have just one full day to explore the Ogunquit and Kennebunk area, there are plenty of scenic, cultural, and culinary experiences to enjoy. Since you’re staying at the Cliff House in Cape Neddick, you’re in a great location to access both coastal attractions and inland sights.
Morning suggestions:
- Start with a stroll along the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, a scenic 1.5-mile coastal cliff walk offering spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, tide pools, and photo opportunities.
- Visit Ogunquit Beach for some sand and ocean views. Even a short walk along the beach can be refreshing.
- Stop by Perkins Cove, a quaint harbor area with local shops, galleries, and a few seafood shacks if you’re hungry for an early snack or coffee.
Lunch options:
- In Perkins Cove, consider lunch at a seafood-focused spot such as The Lobster Shack (casual, classic Maine lobster rolls and seafood) or Barnacle Billy’s for a family-friendly seafood experience.
- For a more refined lunch, you could try The Front Porch Piano Bar & Restaurant in Ogunquit for a mix of seafood and American cuisine in a cozy setting.
Afternoon options:
- Drive north a short distance to Kennebunkport and visit the Dock Square area. It’s filled with charming shops, art galleries, and cafes.
- Consider a scenic drive along Ocean Avenue or take a short detour to Walker’s Point to see the Bush family compound from a distance (public viewing only).
- If your group enjoys light outdoor activities, a walk along the Kennebunk River or a brief visit to Gooch’s Beach or Mother’s Beach can be relaxing.
Evening plan:
- Head to the White Barn Inn in Kennebunk for dinner. Reservations are highly recommended, especially in high season, as this is a popular fine dining destination.
Tips:
- Parking can be limited in Ogunquit during busy times, so start early if possible.
- Check tide schedules if you plan to explore tide pools along the Marginal Way.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes for rocky paths and short hikes.
Overall, this itinerary balances coastal scenic walks, quaint towns, and excellent seafood dining. You can adjust based on your interests, but it should make for a fulfilling day in southern Maine.
Regarding your "day" issue showing up as "ddy" in the Subject: this sounds like a technical glitch, possibly an autocorrect or text replacement setting on your device. Check your keyboard settings or autocorrect dictionary to see if "day" has been accidentally replaced, or try typing the text in a different program and then copying it over.
