Overnight in Sarasota Area

Heading to Marco Island from Montreal. Usually last leg is Savannah to MI. Plan to take an extra day. Hampton Inn type hotel with sports bar or pub within walking distance works for us.End of November. Any feedback much appreciated.

Sarasota is a convenient and enjoyable stopover when driving from northern Florida down to Marco Island. Late November tends to be a quieter time, with pleasant weather and fewer tourists.

For your requirements—comfortable Hampton Inn-style accommodations with a sports bar or pub within walking distance—there are several options to consider. The downtown Sarasota area and the US-41 corridor have a good mix of chain hotels and local restaurants/bars nearby.

  • Hampton Inn & Suites Sarasota/Bradenton Airport – A clean, reliable choice. While it doesn’t have an on-site sports bar, there are several casual pubs and restaurants within a short drive or Uber ride. Close to the airport, making it convenient for early departures.
  • La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Sarasota Downtown – Centrally located with easy access to bars and restaurants within walking distance. Offers a casual environment and standard amenities for an overnight stop.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Sarasota Downtown – Slightly upscale but still comfortable. The hotel itself has a bar area, and you are within walking distance of multiple pubs and eateries along Main Street.

If walking to a pub is key, focusing on downtown Sarasota or near the St. Armands Circle area is your best bet. These areas combine hotels, restaurants, and nightlife in close proximity, so you can enjoy a casual evening without needing to drive.

  • Downtown Sarasota – More urban vibe, easy access to restaurants, casual bars, and coffee shops.
  • St. Armands Circle – Tourist-friendly, compact area with a few bars and casual dining options, though slightly more spread out.

Given your route from Savannah to Marco Island, staying in Sarasota provides a good halfway point with comfortable lodging, accessible dining, and a low-stress overnight stop before continuing south.
