1 dinner in Sarasota-La Violetta, Marcello or Mediterraneo

Hello!

We are flying into Sarasota next month and would like to have dinner before driving to Venice, we will be spending a few days.

In addition to the restaurants listed above, I was considering Owen's Fish Camp.

La Violetta and Marcello both are my first choices as they seem on line like they have cozy atmosphere and authentic Italian dishes/wine. The pastas seem creative, and both offer braised/grilled meats. Owen's looks like a fun way to begin the trip.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. On Tuesday we will be having lunch at Speaks Clam prior to catching our flight back home.

Thank you!

Hello!

It sounds like you're in for a lovely trip to Sarasota, and you're making great choices for your dinner plans. Here's a bit more detail about the restaurants you mentioned, and I'll throw in a few additional suggestions that might be of interest!

La Violetta – This is a fantastic option if you're looking for an intimate and cozy Italian dining experience. The atmosphere is charming, and the restaurant has a reputation for its high-quality Italian cuisine with a focus on authentic, creative dishes. The pasta options are unique, and the wine selection is very well-curated. It's an excellent spot for a romantic dinner or a relaxed, high-end meal. If you enjoy traditional Italian food with a twist, La Violetta is a solid choice.

Marcello – Marcello's also offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a focus on Northern Italian cuisine. Many diners appreciate its slightly upscale vibe, but still relaxed enough for a leisurely dinner. The pastas here are freshly made, and the restaurant is known for its classic Italian dishes like veal and braised meats. It's an ideal spot if you're in the mood for hearty Italian fare and a more refined dining experience.

Owen's Fish Camp – If you're looking for something more laid-back with a fun vibe, Owen's is a great option to kick off your trip. Known for its relaxed, quirky atmosphere (you can sit at picnic tables or cozy booths), Owen's offers a solid selection of seafood dishes, many of which are inspired by Southern flavors. It's a very casual and friendly spot that’s perfect for getting into vacation mode. If you want a taste of local seafood in a fun setting, Owen's is a great start to your time in Sarasota.

Mediterraneo – If you're leaning towards Mediterranean flavors, Mediterraneo is another excellent restaurant in Sarasota that offers a mix of Italian and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. The ambiance is upscale but not too formal, and the food is consistently praised for being fresh and flavorful. It’s a great choice if you're looking for creative Mediterranean dishes, especially with their fresh seafood and unique pasta options.

Additional Suggestions:

  • Speaks Clam Bar – You already have this one lined up for lunch before your flight back, and it's an excellent spot for fresh seafood and a casual, local vibe. The raw bar and fresh oysters are top-notch, and it’s a great place to savor the flavors of the Gulf Coast.
  • The Serving Spoon – If you’re in the mood for something more brunch-style, this cozy café in the heart of Sarasota offers delicious breakfast and lunch options with a Southern twist. While not dinner, it’s worth considering if you're exploring the area in the morning.
  • Selva Grill – If you're interested in trying something a bit more adventurous, Selva Grill offers Latin-inspired dishes and is known for its vibrant flavors and fresh ingredients. The ceviches and seafood dishes are particularly popular, and it offers a lively atmosphere perfect for a special dinner.

For your lunch at Speaks Clam Bar, be sure to try their signature clam chowder and fresh oysters—they're known for these. Sarasota has a wonderful variety of dining options that cater to all tastes, so you're bound to find something that suits your mood and style!

Enjoy your trip to Sarasota, and happy dining!
