Coffee shops with good pastries

Will be staying at JW Marriott downtown Tampa in November. We like to have coffee and pastries for breakfast and wondered if there are any outstanding ones in the downtown area. Thanks.

Downtown Tampa has several coffee shops that are well-known for both their coffee and pastries, making them great options for a morning stop near the JW Marriott. Many of these spots are within a short walk or a quick ride from the hotel, offering a mix of artisanal pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and excellent coffee.

Some highly recommended options include:

  • Buddy Brew Coffee – A local favorite for freshly roasted coffee and a variety of pastries, including muffins, scones, and croissants. Their downtown location is convenient and has a modern, cozy vibe.
  • Oxford Exchange (Tampa Bay location) – Known for upscale pastries and breakfast items, along with specialty coffee. It’s a bit more of a destination spot, offering a stylish atmosphere and beautifully presented treats.
  • King State Coffee – Offers high-quality coffee drinks and a selection of baked goods. Known for its espresso-based beverages and relaxed, minimalist setting.
  • Daily Eats – While more of a breakfast spot, they serve excellent coffee paired with pastries, croissants, and breakfast breads. It’s casual and popular with locals.

Other nearby options include smaller bakeries or café spots where you can grab a quick pastry and coffee to enjoy downtown:

  • Pastry Art Bakery & Café – Offers European-style pastries and sweet breads, paired with quality coffee.
  • The Blind Tiger Café – Serves coffee, teas, and a small selection of breakfast pastries in a cozy downtown setting.

For convenience, most of these cafés are walkable from the JW Marriott or a short drive/ride away. If you prefer to stay in the hotel, the JW Marriott itself has a café serving coffee and pastries, but for the local experience, the above options offer higher quality and unique flavors. Visiting a few different spots over your stay can give you a good sampling of Tampa’s downtown coffee scene.
