Kauai: The Cliffs at Princeville or Club Wyndham Bali Hai?

We are going to Kauai in May as a family and I currently have two 1-bedroom condos booked at the Cliffs of Princeville and also a 3-bedroom condo at Bali Hai. I've read a lot of reviews and am trying to decide which one to choose... Which one is nicest/better. We likely won't spend a ton of time at the resort during the days, as we will be out and about exploring, but still want a nice resort to come back to and relax in the evenings. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Both The Cliffs at Princeville and Club Wyndham Bali Hai are great options for your stay in Kauai, but they offer different experiences and amenities. Here’s a comparison to help you decide which resort might be a better fit for your family’s needs:

The Cliffs at Princeville:

Located in Princeville, this resort offers stunning ocean views and is known for its spacious 1- and 2-bedroom condos. It's a quieter, more laid-back option that provides a more residential feel. It's also set on lush, tropical grounds, making it a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring Kauai.

  • Pros:
    • Great ocean views and tropical landscaping.
    • Very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, ideal for unwinding.
    • Includes amenities like a pool, hot tubs, and a BBQ area.
    • Close to Hanalei Bay and other North Shore attractions.
  • Cons:
    • Not as many on-site dining or entertainment options.
    • More of a residential-style complex, which could feel less like a "resort" to some.

Club Wyndham Bali Hai:

Also located in Princeville, Bali Hai offers a mix of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom condos with easy access to the nearby beaches. It has a more resort-like feel than The Cliffs, with more on-site amenities such as a pool, tennis courts, and BBQ areas. It’s a great choice for families who like a mix of relaxation and activities on-site, with convenient access to Princeville’s shops and restaurants.

  • Pros:
    • Close to beautiful beaches like Hanalei Bay and Anini Beach.
    • More family-friendly amenities, including a pool and tennis courts.
    • Some condos offer great ocean views.
    • Great location for exploring the North Shore and nearby restaurants.
  • Cons:
    • Can be busier with more families, which might detract from a more tranquil experience.
    • Some of the units could be a bit dated compared to more modern resorts.

Which is better for you?

  • If you’re looking for a more peaceful, secluded experience with gorgeous views and tropical landscaping, The Cliffs at Princeville may be the better option.
  • If you want more on-site activities like a pool, tennis, and a family-friendly atmosphere, and prefer a more resort-style stay, Club Wyndham Bali Hai could be a better fit.

Since you’ll be out exploring during the day, both locations are well-situated for North Shore adventures. It ultimately depends on whether you prefer a more tranquil or activity-filled environment at the resort itself. Both have their perks, but either will offer you a great base for your Kauai exploration.
