Jingshan | Zen in Tea Gardens and Bamboo Forests

Hangzhou may be considered a gentle city, but a closer look reveals a truly intense place hidden within this gentle landscape: Jingshan. The winding road leading up to the mountain is a favorite destination for many drivers. With two lanes, steep slopes on one side and cliffs on the other, the narrow road boasts steep slopes and sharp turns, earning it the nickname "Hangzhou's Akina Mountain."

The 3-kilometer Jingshan Ancient Trail, originally built during the Tang Dynasty, has served as a vital route for Buddhist pilgrims to Jingshan Temple throughout history, and has been a beloved destination for generations of literary masters. Following this path, you'll reach Jingshan Temple, known as the "Crown of Zen Temples in Jiangnan."

Jingshan Temple, founded in the Tang Dynasty, was hailed as the most prestigious of the Five Mountains and Ten Temples of Jiangnan during the Song Dynasty. At its peak, the temple boasted numerous halls and housed 3,000 monks. Living in this secluded place, the monks, after morning bells and evening drums, chanting and meditating, strolled along the ancient mountaintop paths, chatting and picking tea, watching the blossoms bloom and fall, and listening to the gentle sounds of the mountain streams – a truly relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Tips:

Ticket price (for reference): 20 yuan/person

Address: Jingshan top, Jingshan Town, Yuhang District, Hangzhou

Transportation: You can take the free shuttle bus from Jingshan Temple to the scenic area (the mountain road is narrow and the traffic is complicated, so it is recommended to transfer). It is very suitable for those traveling with the elderly and children. Alternatively, you can walk the Jingshan Ancient Trail. Although the mountain road is a bit tiring, the scenery along the way is really beautiful.

Jingshan Flower Sea | Take a train to explore the flower sea

In spring, the beauty of Jingshan, beyond the scent of tea, can only be described as "blooming." A stunning sea of flowers vie for attention. Standing on the gentle slopes, you can easily take in every blade of grass, tree, rock, and scene within the sea of flowers. The scenery is simply breathtaking. Aboard the rumbling train, weaving through the sea of flowers, against the backdrop of distant blue sky and white clouds, it feels like transporting you to the rural countryside of another land.

Shuangxi Rafting | Laughter Supports a Journey Through the Painting

Bamboo rafting is a popular activity at Shuangxi Rafting. Before boarding the raft, take a ride on an oxcart along the bamboo path. The distinctive cries of the oxcart drivers serve as a gentle prelude to the rafting experience, creating a unique and charming rural experience that will leave you feeling fresh and new. The 3.5-kilometer raft journeys through a vast sea of bamboo, accompanied by a gentle breeze and lush greenery, perfectly evoking the poem: "The stream is sparkling, the waves are gentle, the bamboo sea is a song worth rafting." The phoenix tails on both sides are unstoppable, and laughter lifts the journey through the picturesque scenery.

Seeking fragrance in water towns and exploring ancient sites to find plum blossoms

Tangqi Ancient Town | The Living Old Hangzhou

Compared to its neighboring Jiangnan towns, Tangqi Ancient Town, nestled quietly in a corner of Yuhang, Hangzhou, may seem much more understated. Yet, when it comes to the charm of Jiangnan water towns, it rivals them in every detail. Founded in the Northern Song Dynasty, it attracted merchants since the Yuan Dynasty. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was ranked among the "Ten Famous Towns of Jiangnan." Emperor Qianlong visited it several times during his seven voyages to the south.

Unlike ordinary small bridges and flowing water, the Guangji Bridge exudes a majestic aura, soaring into the azure clouds. Ascending the weathered stone steps, each step feels like touching history. This seven-arch stone arch, the only remaining bridge on the Grand Canal, has endured centuries, like the soul of Tangqi, bearing witness to its rise and fall.

Tangqi isn't a small town, but it boasts historic houses dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, delicious food that foodies crave, and a slower pace of life that city dwellers yearn for. After more than 600 years of development, the water here is now unrestrained, fishing pens are everywhere, and people live by the water, creating a truly tranquil experience: "Houses line the waterside, buildings float in the air, and the water is tranquil."

Chaoshan Scenic Area | Ten Miles of Plum Blossoms

@Lu Wei/Photo

Chaoshan's beauty is evoked by Wu Changshuo's "Ten miles of plum blossoms, a sea of fragrant snow," Yu Dafu's "Plum Blossoms of Chaoshan," where "a heap of rocks on the mountaintop, a thousand plum blossoms at the foot," and Kang Youwei's "Thirty miles, a million plum trees..." Plum blossoms elsewhere have only five petals, but Chaoshan's boasts six, a truly remarkable sight. In its heyday, the expansive ten-mile expanse of Chaoshan's plum blossoms was a truly poetic spectacle.

Deep in the wetlands, dreams take off

Xixi Wetland Hongyuan | Only immortals can come

In his poem "Sunny and Rainy in Xixi," Yu Dafu compared Xixi to West Lake: West Lake is "too neat, too small, and lacks flavor," while Xixi has a more "wild charm." If you're looking for more pristine beauty in this "wild charm" of Xixi, I recommend visiting Hongyuan.

Surrounded by winding waterways and mountains, Hongyuan, with its white walls and black tiles, exudes a sense of seclusion and seclusion. A rowboat paddles across the shimmering waters, gently sailing into the depths of nature. The old houses and quaint scenery of Hongyuan evoke Hangzhou's past. Back then, Hangzhou's Lin'an was the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty, a place of fine carriages and fragrant spring breezes.

Dream Town | Where dreams begin

Jack Ma once said that Hangzhou is a place where dreams can come true. Dream Town is located in Cangqian Ancient Town, a thousand-year-old water town with a history of over 880 years. The streets preserve cultural relics such as Zhang Taiyan's former residence and the "Siwu Granary," along with a large number of ancient buildings. The "seed warehouses," converted from old granaries, have become workspaces for "pan-university students" starting their own businesses, becoming the starting point for countless young people's dreams.
