2020 has been an extraordinary year. Everyone was cooped up for nearly two months, and children were taking online classes at home, which was very hard on parents! Fortunately, things have stabilized in China. Many schools resumed classes in early April, and summer vacation was announced in mid-July.
Many parents, whose winter vacation plans have been canceled, can now start planning their vacation: will they follow the textbooks to travel? Or will they go to the grasslands, deserts, or the seaside?

Why are parents, who prioritize parent-child education, increasingly prioritizing parent-child travel? Beyond satisfying adults' needs, children are also brimming with curiosity about the unknown world. Travel can overcome their fear of the unfamiliar, allowing them to discover the vastness of the world. It can also enhance communication between parents and children.
Now I would like to recommend to you 10 places suitable for taking your children to during the summer vacation. There will definitely be one you like!

Bring your children to Chengdu and experience its rich cultural history. The Three Kingdoms culture and the legacy of the Thatched Cottage, along with the Wuhou Shrine and Du Fu Thatched Cottage, are must-sees in Chengdu. Recommended attractions in Chengdu
Du Fu Thatched Cottage
This is the former residence of the great poet Du Fu during his four years in Chengdu, where he composed over 240 poems. The thatched cottage was rebuilt by the late Tang Dynasty poet Wei Zhuang and expanded twice during the Ming and Qing dynasties, resulting in the landscape we see today.
Du Fu Thatched Cottage is one of the first national first-class museums and the Chinese Poetry Culture Center. If you follow the textbook tour, you must come here to experience Du Fu culture. The entire garden covers more than 300 acres, and half a day is enough for a leisurely stroll.

Wuhou Temple
If you're a Three Kingdoms fan, a visit to the Wuhou Temple is a must. It's the only temple in China dedicated to both the emperor and his ministers. It's also the most renowned memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei, and the heroes of Shu Han. It's also the nation's most influential museum dedicated to Three Kingdoms relics. The famous "Red Walls and Bamboo Shadows" is located here. The harmonious combination of red walls and green bamboo has become a popular check-in spot for many tourists.
The Wuhou Temple is not very large, and a simple tour only takes about 30 minutes. However, if you want to learn more about it, you will need more time. It is also best to follow a guide. History needs to be explained to you so that you can understand the past.
Tips:
Ticket price: 50 yuan
There are free audio guides in the scenic area. You can scan the QR code when you arrive, or follow the "Chengdu Wuhou Temple" WeChat public account in advance; you can also rent a voice guide for 20 yuan per time.
Wuhou Temple has a ticketed entrance and a non-ticketed entrance. The exits of both areas lead directly to Jinli (the two are separated by only a wall).
【Kuanzhai Alley】
Every city has its representative place, and the Kuanzhai Alley in Chengdu is undoubtedly it.
Longer term, it's a place of architecture dating back to the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, so you can see both early Western-style buildings and traditional Chinese architecture here. More recently, Kuanzhai Alley is a popular spot for finding delicious snacks and experiencing the customs and culture of old Chengdu. Here, you can find traces of traditional craftsmanship and a strong sense of modern art. A visit here offers a striking blend of ancient and modern cultures.

People's Park
Here, you'll find a microcosm of the authentic, slow-paced life of Chengdu residents. Children can discover that city life isn't monotonous. Drinking tea, playing cards, cleaning ears, playing mahjong... this is a favorite spot for Chengdu residents.
If you're in Chengdu, be sure to visit the century-old Heming Teahouse, order a variety of Chengdu snacks, and enjoy a relaxing time that's truly Chengdu. Children can also doodle a letter to their future selves, friends, or family. Then, get a unique postmark from the world's only Panda Post Office and mail it. Just be sure not to arrive too late at People's Park!
Sichuan Cuisine Museum
Chengdu's cuisine is one of its calling cards. It's the birthplace of Sichuan cuisine, one of China's four major culinary styles. Chengdu boasts the world's only living museum dedicated entirely to culinary culture, dedicated to promoting the cuisine and allowing visitors to not only remember its flavors but also understand its history.

What can I do with my kids here?
Adults and children can watch professionals demonstrate the core content of Sichuan cuisine's intangible cultural heritage, and can also participate in interactive activities, put on chef uniforms and learn to make Sichuan cuisine from the chef, or DIY traditional snacks. Most importantly, they can also taste more than 20 kinds of special snacks. It is worth a visit!

Dujiangyan Irrigation Project
Built in 256 BC, this is the oldest and only surviving damless water diversion project still in use. It's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its natural beauty makes it a great place to visit, even during the summer months.
The scenic area boasts numerous attractions. Baopingkou, Feishayan, and Yuzui, the three main structures that make up the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, are must-sees. Qinyan Tower, offering a panoramic view of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, is also a must-see. The area also boasts the Anlan Cable Bridge, one of my country's five greatest ancient bridges, alongside the Zhaozhou Bridge. Behind this bridge lies the love story of He Xiande and his wife.

However, visiting the Dujiangyan Scenic Area is 30% seeing and 70% listening, so be sure to follow the tour guide or rent an audio guide!

Tips:
Tickets: Adult ticket 90 yuan, student voucher 45 yuan; audio guide 10 yuan (extra charge)
The guide is 20 yuan (an additional fee); the round-trip sightseeing bus ticket is 15 yuan, and the one-way ticket is 10 yuan (from the stele pavilion to Yuzui).
Play time: 3 hours
Main attractions: Yuzui Diversion Dike, Feishayan Spillway, Anlan Cable Bridge, Erwang Temple, South Bridge
Panda Paradise
If you're traveling with children, the first thing you'd recommend is the chubby giant pandas. This is the pandas' backyard! As the "diplomats" of the animal kingdom and the "spokespersons" of China, panda cubs have garnered worldwide attention in recent years, making them a top destination for many foreigners visiting China.

Giant pandas have inhabited Earth for tens of millions of years and are considered "living fossils" of the animal kingdom. Since their discovery, researchers have dedicated tremendous effort to their conservation, achieving remarkable results. Over the past two years, their numbers have eased from "endangered" to "vulnerable," but fewer than 2,000 remain in the wild.

To protect pandas, we need to allow more people, especially children, to get to know them and understand the efforts of researchers. Every year, over 6,000 volunteers from around the world travel thousands of miles to Chengdu to serve as panda caretakers. After all, raising pandas online is no different than simply watching them through a window at a zoo. Getting up close and personal, and experiencing the care of pandas from a keeper's perspective, is far more exciting!

The Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in Dujiangyan, also known as the "Panda Paradise," is China's first specialized institution for giant panda rescue and disease prevention research, as well as a popular science education base. Many of the panda cubs sent abroad have come from here.

The park is divided into six areas, which can be explored on foot or by shuttle bus. Compared to the Chengdu Panda Base, the most obvious advantage of the Panda Park is that it is less crowded, and here, adults and children can participate in a variety of activities.

It is best to spend 1-2 days to experience it and be a "nanny": cleaning the enclosure, making steamed bread, moving bamboo, identifying and analyzing, learning about pandas, making unique panda handicrafts... Children cannot miss it.
After completing all of this, you can also receive a volunteer certificate issued by the base to recognize the campers' special contribution to protecting the rare and endangered species of giant panda and its habitat. This is a real help, especially for children attending international schools.

The "Panda Secret Realm Experiential Camp Study Course" allows children to go deep into nature, transform into little scientists, play with animals, have fun with plants, and experience the most authentic Sichuan culture!
When it comes to Yunnan, many people may first think of Lijiang, Dali, and Shangri-La. In fact, Yunnan is very large, and due to its different geographical environment and climate, you can enjoy the most beautiful scenery in Yunnan in different seasons.
Summer is when most cities swelter, so it's time to head to southeastern Yunnan for some summer escape! Explore Fuxian Lake, have a water fight at Puzhehei, or enjoy summer fishing at the Yuanyang Rice Terraces deep in the mountains... These places are also known for their stunning scenery and sparse crowds.

Three Lives Three Worlds Pu Zhehei
Many people probably know Puzhehei because it is the filming location for many variety shows and TV dramas, such as "Where Are We Going, Dad?", "High Energy Youth League", and the Qingqiu location of the "Eternal Love" series. Why was Puzhehei chosen?

Puzhehei boasts a typical karst landscape, renowned for its six key landscapes: "Waterside Pastoral Landscapes, Lakes and Peaks, Yi Water Village, Karst Wetlands, Lotus World, and Migratory Bird Paradise." Its breathtaking scenery is dominated by clusters of karst lakes, caves, and isolated peaks, with 265 scenic spots within the scenic area. It also boasts its own unique folk festivals, such as the Hualian Festival and the Torch Festival. If Puzhehei's most beautiful season is summer, it's undoubtedly. At this time, acres of lotus blossom, and boating amidst them offers a glimpse into the essence of Qingqiu.
① Cruise
Puzhehei is dotted with 54 lakes, stretching across 20,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of pristine water. A boat tour is a must!

From Cattail Pond Pier, take a willow-leaf boat to Puzhehei Lake, passing through lotus ponds and reeds, passing Immortal Lake, the Ten Thousand Acres Lotus Road, the Sunken Fish Pond, and the Lover's Bridge, before arriving at Qinglongshan Pier. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the sound of oars reflected in the air, the warm breeze caressing your face, and the sight of lotus leaves swaying in the wind make you feel like you're in central China.

Of course, the greatest joy of visiting Puzhehei Lake is having a water fight with the kids and strangers. Get your water guns and basins ready, along with your phone and the tools you need for a water fight, and let's have a blast!

② Mountain climbing
There are more than 300 isolated peaks in Puzhehei, some standing in the lakes, some sitting on the plains. Looking at the panoramic view, the mountains look like thousands of galloping horses.

【Qinglong Mountain】
Puzhehei's highest peak is a perfect spot for photographing the sunrise and its rural scenery. From Puzhehei Village, it takes about 15 minutes to walk down the mountain (for sunrise viewing, you can even see a star-filled sky in the morning). Another 20 minutes of climbing leads to the observation deck. These aren't built observation platforms, but rather views from atop a pile of rocks. But after patiently waiting and watching the sun rise in the east, the distant landscape, like a Chinese ink painting, slowly awakens with the rising sun. Smoke curls upward, creating the feeling of an outdoor paradise.

【Jinsuo Mountain】
Jinsuo Mountain, located at the entrance of Xianrendong Village, boasts an even better location than Qinglong Cave. The entire mountaintop is paved with steps, and reaching the summit offers unobstructed panoramic views. Enjoy the view of numerous rivers and lakes, winding waterways around the green mountains, reflections on the lake, and the setting sun...

③Cave
Like Guilin, Puzhehei boasts a karst landscape, so when you visit Puzhehei, you can't miss putting all your textbook learning into practice. Explore the area and experience the vibrant energy of nature. Puzhehei boasts 83 large caves of scenic value. While not particularly large, their beauty lies in their interconnectedness with water. The most famous are Guanyin Cave, Torch Cave, Immortal Cave, and Moon Cave. Torch Cave is connected to Qinglong Cave, located at the foot of Qinglong Mountain. Within the caves are several clear pools, stalagmites, and over 30 scenic spots. Guanyin Cave, situated on the other side of these caves, lives up to its name and is a favorite destination for pilgrims.
④Village
【Xianren Cave Village】
Xianrendong Village is home to over a thousand households of the Sani people, a branch of the Yi ethnic group. It's said their ancestors fled the Stone Forest over 400 years ago. "Painting the Face" is a fun Sani activity for finding a partner, making friends, and expressing love. During the annual "Painting the Face Festival," young men and women enthusiastically smear each other with lard and soot. If you have the chance, you can experience the fun of "Painting the Face."
Xianrendong Village is surrounded by green mountains and vast blue waters, creating a beautiful environment. Today, it is also the busiest place in the Puzhehei Scenic Area, with many delicious restaurants, inns, hotels, and shopping opportunities, making it a great place to spend the night.

Tips:
Transportation: The most convenient way to get to Puzhehei is by high-speed rail to Puzhehei Railway Station (available in Guangzhou, Nanning, or Kunming), then transfer to bus No. 7 directly to the Puzhehei Scenic Area. Within Puzhehei Village, you can experience the unique horse-drawn carriage rides, which are usually quite affordable. This is especially true for visiting Caihuaqing Village to see the Three Lives Three Worlds original scenery. Tickets: Adult combined ticket: 200 yuan/person (includes boat ticket, electric sightseeing bus ticket, and complimentary Torch Cave and Guanyin Cave tickets). Tickets do not include Swan Lake tickets (which must be purchased separately). Tickets are valid for the day. No entrance fee is required to enter Puzhehei Village, Xianren Cave Village, or Qinglong Mountain.
Due to various coincidences, a pool of good water was formed. This is Fuxian Lake, which is the back garden of Kunming. The climate here is similar to that of Kunming, and it is spring all year round.

It is China's largest and deepest freshwater lake. Naturally, it boasts numerous scenic spots, including traditional attractions like Luchong, Gushan, and Mingxing Fish Cave on its west bank, and newer attractions like Xinhekou Lakeside Park and Maotianshan National Geopark on its northeastern bank.

Fuxian Lake is exceptionally clear and blue, with shimmering ripples as sunlight falls on its surface. The water, against the backdrop of the distant blue sky and white clouds, is exceptionally beautiful. If you visit Fuxian, be sure to stay overnight and enjoy a relaxing vacation with the sunrise and sunset.

Of course, the activities here can keep adults and children busy all day long: boating, swimming, diving, hiking, strolling on the beach with children, or playing with sand and kicking beach balls on the beach, etc.; if the parents and children love the outdoors, they can experience a cycling trip around the lake or a self-driving trip.

Retracing the Silk Road - Dunhuang
What is the Hexi Corridor? It was once a vital route connecting mainland China to the Western Regions, a location of great importance to military strategists. Running from Wushaoling in Wuwei in the east to Xingxing Gorge at the Gansu-Xinjiang border in the west, it passes through major cities such as Lanzhou, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan, Jiayuguan, and Dunhuang.
Millennia later, the ancient Silk Road has once again become a vital trading hub thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative. Although children haven't yet visited this region, they already have a first impression of the northwestern frontier from their elementary school Chinese textbooks. Parents can take their children on a seven-day authentic Silk Road journey, covering 600 kilometers from Zhangye, Jiayuguan, Guazhou, Dunhuang, and finally Yangguan, engaging in a dialogue with history.

Dunhuang Traces History
Dunhuang is a must-visit place in one’s lifetime and a cultural classroom that Chinese people must attend.
Master Ji Xianlin once commented on Dunhuang: "There are only four cultural systems in the world that possess a long history, a vast territory, self-contained systems, and far-reaching influence: China, India, Greece, and Islam. There is no fifth. And these four cultural systems converge in only one place: Dunhuang in China... There is no other."
It truly deserves such praise. Dunhuang boasts over 45,000 square meters of murals, 735 caves, and over 2,400 painted sculptures, spanning 1,653 years of history and incorporating the wisdom of 10 dynasties and diverse national cultures. Representative of these is the Mogao Grottoes, a national treasure and a world-class art museum.
The Mogao Grottoes are the world's largest, longest-continuously constructed, and richest-in-content Buddhist cave complex, and a representative example of the Dunhuang Grottoes. The Mogao Grottoes scenic area consists of a digital display center and the grottoes. Through historical presentations and close-up observations, visitors can learn about the mural culture and understand the rise and fall of Chinese history.
The most well-known of them is probably the Nine-Storey Tower. Its exterior resembles a temple, blending seamlessly into the loess, but inside it lies a vast world, housing a nine-story-high Buddha statue and various smaller Buddha statues.
Special Experience
These murals will eventually disappear due to the lack of resistance, so come and see them as soon as possible!
We also hope that more children will appreciate the cultural heritage of Dunhuang, explore the unique charm of Buddhist art, and pass on Chinese civilization. Parents can bring their children to paint their own Dunhuang murals, making this national treasure a popular destination. This will not only deepen their understanding of what they have learned, but also help them develop their hands-on skills.

Experience the wonders of nature in the desert
Mingsha Mountain, stretching from the clifftop of Mogao Grottoes in the east to the Danghe Reservoir in the west, is composed of fine, rice-grained yellow sand. When strong winds blow, the sand dunes emit a resounding sound, while when gentle breezes blow, they resemble the melody of stringed instruments, hence the name. Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake are twin sisters in the vast desert. For thousands of years, the two have coexisted in harmony, their springs never drying up, despite the sand covering them.
Playing in the sand may be a favorite activity for children all over the world, but you can also enjoy sandboarding, go-karting, paragliding, and other activities here. If you want to explore the Singing Sand Mountain in detail, you can explore the desert on a camel, drive a desert off-road vehicle, or take a helicopter to overlook the Singing Sand Mountain.
The desert at sunset, with its crimson sky, is truly stunning. If you're interested, you can even spend a night camping in the desert, falling asleep under a sky filled with stars. After a day of fun, children can also learn even more about geography.

Named one of China's Seven Most Beautiful Danxias by National Geographic, the Colorful Danxia is China's only complex of Danxia landforms and colorful hilly landscapes. It comprises two major scenic areas: Binggou Danxia and Colorful Danxia. Its magnificent landscape has attracted numerous film and television dramas, including Zhang Yimou's film "Three Shots Surprise" and Jiang Wen's "The Sun Also Rises."
Zhangye Danxia currently has four viewing platforms open to the public, covering only about a quarter of the area. Entering from the west gate, the viewing order is 1-5-4-2 (no backtracking): Platform 1: offers a majestic mountain sweeping into the distance; Platform 5: offers a close-up of the mountain; Platform 4: the most visited, perfect for watching the sunset; Platform 2: boasts the famous Seven-Colored Fan.

Northwest Great Wall - Jiayuguan
Jiayuguan City Tower
Jiayuguan, the world's most majestic pass, dominates the western terminus of the Great Wall. A crucial pass on the ancient Silk Road, it is one of the three wonders of the Great Wall of China (along with Shanhaiguan in the east, Zhenbeitai in the middle, and Jiayuguan in the west) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Even today, a close-up view reveals the imposing military defenses of ancient times. The Great Wall Museum within the scenic area offers insights into the history of this remarkable pass, making it a well-worthwhile visit.
The First Pier of the Great Wall
The First Tower of the Great Wall is the southernmost tower at the Jiayuguan West Great Wall and the westernmost tower of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. Once a strategic border defense point, it was guarded by soldiers and remains relatively well-preserved. The tower is located in the Taolai River Gorge, with a large military camp at the foot of the cliff. In addition to the First Tower, there are also zip lines, a suspension bridge, and a group of inn sculptures, among other attractions.
【Hanging Wall Great Wall】
The Cantilever Great Wall, built during the Ming Dynasty, derives its name from its resemblance to an inverted structure suspended in mid-air, situated atop a 45-degree ridge. It forms the northern extension of Jiayuguan Pass, constructed from locally sourced gravel and rammed earth. Climbing to the summit, one can gaze upon the desolate desert beyond the pass. The Ancient Silk Road Cultural Corridor runs through the scenic area, featuring highlights such as the Cantilever Great Wall, the "Ancient Silk Road" sculptures, and the Jiayuguan Ancient Weapons Exhibition.
It is about 11 kilometers away from the downtown area of Jiayuguan and about 7 kilometers away from Jiayuguan Pass. "Cantilever Great Wall". The cantilever Great Wall has a stepped path for tourists to climb. The military defense system area of the cantilever Great Wall includes the cantilever Great Wall, water gates and ancient weapons exhibitions. The leisure and vacation area is the green area on the north side of the Great Wall and the small square at the entrance of the scenic area. It provides tourists with leisure services such as barbecue, tea, chess and card games and the sale of tourist souvenirs. The management area mainly refers to the tourist service facilities on the south side of the Great Wall, including the management center, public toilets, squares, parking lots, etc.
Tips:
Ticket price: 100 yuan/person in off-season, 120 yuan/person in peak season (combined ticket price for Jiayuguan Tower, No. 1 Pier under Heaven, and Hanging Wall Great Wall)
Play time: 2-3 hours
Yumen Pass, one of the two passes
Yumen Pass, built around 111 BC, was a crucial pass on the northern route of the Silk Road. Legend has it that the renowned "Hetian Jade" was imported into the Central Plains through this pass, hence its name. The existing city walls are intact, with a square shape measuring 24 meters from east to west and 26.4 meters from north to south. The remaining walls are 9.7 meters high, constructed entirely of yellow clay and covering an area of 633 square meters. There is a gate in each of the west and north walls, and a major east-west carriageway runs down the northern slope, historically serving as a route for communication between the Central Plains and the Western Regions, as well as for postal services.
In 2014, the Yumen Pass Ruins were successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List as part of the "Silk Road: Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor" network, a joint application by China, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. However, after centuries of erosion, Yumen Pass has long lost its original appearance, now resembling a rammed earth mound. But when we stand at this historic crossroads again, do the images of war, war, and the shouts and neighs of horses and soldiers of the past spring to mind? Experience the rich history, culture, and social change with your children, and savor the memories of the past.
Tips:
Adult ticket: 40 yuan/person
Opening hours: 08:00-18:00
Guazhou Night Market
Dunhuang is a city steeped in history, a crucial gateway along the ancient Silk Road. Naturally, its food is indispensable. Anciently known as Guazhou, Dunhuang earned its name from its abundant honeydew melons. While often a tourist destination, the city's diverse barbecue scene is particularly authentic. Unique Dunhuang delicacies like donkey meat noodles, rubbed fish roe, and mutton stewed pancakes can also be found at the night market. If you're looking for some souvenirs to take home, this is a great place to find them.

【Chaka Salt Lake】
<China's Sky Realm>
Chaka Town, known as the eastern gateway to Qaidam, has historically been a must-go for merchants and tourists entering Xinjiang and Tibet. Chaka Salt Lake, a brine lake with both solid and liquid water, is the world's largest salt marsh. Ten times the size of West Lake, it was named one of the "55 Must-Visit Places in a Lifetime" by the National Tourism Administration.
Taking photos here is a must-do for everyone. Adults and children can also take a special train to explore the depths of the salt lake.
【Rapeseed Flowers】
1. Menyuan Rapeseed Flowers
Visit Qinghai in July to discover a 60-acre sea of rapeseed flowers, blossoming amidst the blue skies and snow-capped mountains. Unlike the rapeseed flowers in Luoping and Wuyuan, the Menyuan rapeseed flowers are truly unique, a true miracle on the plateau.
2. Qinghai Lake Rapeseed Flowers
Qinghai Lake's unique geology and topography create a vibrant landscape that changes with each season. Grasslands, snow-capped mountains, emerald lakes, and deserts... Qilian Grassland
<One of the six most beautiful grasslands in my country>
Qilian means "sky" in the Xiongnu language, and the Qilian Mountain grasslands are considered the most fertile pastures bestowed by heaven. The Qilian Mountains boast vast, long, and broad glacial landscapes, perennial snow, and a rich biodiversity, making them one of the most pristine ecologically preserved regions in the world. Adjacent to them lies the vast, emerald Qilian Mountain grasslands. Climbing to the summit of Zhuoer Mountain, known as the "Little Switzerland of the East," offers breathtaking views. Horseback riding is also an option!
Various Experiences
RV Camping
What's the most worthwhile experience when traveling around Qinghai Lake with your family? It must be an RV.
This is a truly enjoyable way to travel, especially during the peak summer season. You don't have to travel all the way to enjoy your trip. You can also stay overnight by Qinghai Lake, easily fulfilling a wish that others can't. How wonderful it is to wake up to the sunrise over Qinghai Lake!
[Outdoor-Jinyintan Grassland Cycling]
Jinyintan is divided into two parts: Gold Beach and Silver Beach. This is because the small golden flowers of the goldenrod (Atractylodes fruticosa) bloom on its north bank, while the pure silvery silverrod (Atractylodes cinnamomea) bloom on its south bank. It is said that Wang Luobin once visited this area to collect folk songs and created the well-known poem "In That Faraway Place."
However, children can experience the grassland in a different way, by cycling around the Golden Silver Beach for about 15km and galloping across the grassland with ease.
[Ecology - Wonderful Migration of Huangyu Fish]
The Huangyu (Huangyu) is a flagship species in the Qinghai Lake "water-bird-fish" ecosystem. July and August are the Huangyu's spawning season, creating a spectacular spectacle of "half the river is clear water, half is filled with fish."

Being a Tibetan for a while
The best way to truly understand a place is to visit its homes. During your visit, you can chat with the herders up close, learn about their lives and unique customs, make tsampa, dance the Guozhuang dance, roast a whole lamb, and experience the wonderful life of Qinghai Lake.
Yak wool products DIY
Yak meat and yak milk are unique foods of the Tibetan people. However, beyond eating them, children may not know much about yaks. Visit the Yak Wool Handicraft Center to learn about Tibetan yak handicrafts and their history and culture, and learn how to make gloves, mats, and other crafts from yak wool.

The Tianshan Mountains divide Xinjiang into southern and northern parts. Northern Xinjiang is primarily known for its scenery, and includes cities like Urumqi, Turpan, Ili, Altay, and Tacheng. Southern Xinjiang, on the other hand, is primarily known for its culture, and includes cities like Kashgar, Hotan, Aksu, Bayingolin, Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, Turpan, the Tarim Basin, and the Xinjiang portion of the Kunlun Mountains.
Reasons for recommending Xinjiang?

It’s really hard to describe it all, and I guess there’s no need to elaborate. It’s no exaggeration to say that all the wonders of the world are gathered here.
The most striking thing about Xinjiang is how huge it is! So, if you're traveling with children, we recommend splitting your visit into two separate trips. While Xinjiang's summer scenery is breathtaking, its vibrant spring with blooming flowers, its vibrant autumn with its vibrant oil paintings, and its winter transformation into a kingdom of ice and snow are all must-see experiences.
The best time to visit northern Xinjiang is during the summer months of June to August, when the lavender in Yili is in full bloom and the grasslands are at their most beautiful.

Yili in midsummer
You won't know the vastness of China until you've visited Xinjiang, and you won't know the beauty of Xinjiang until you've visited Ili. Eastern China is particularly scorching in midsummer, making Xinjiang a wise choice for a summer escape. Summer is also when Ili's scenery is at its peak, rivaling any other part of Xinjiang.
Huocheng Lavender Garden
The lavender from Provence is famous all over the world. Huocheng, which is at the same latitude, is one of the few places in the world suitable for growing lavender. Now it has become the world's third lavender planting base after Provence and Furano.
Lavender has a relatively short growth period. Due to the influence of the weather, its flowering period is approximately from May to July each year. There are several lavender planting bases in Huocheng. The largest local lavender garden, Princess Jieyou Lavender Garden, is especially recommended. It also houses the first lavender museum in China.

The lavender garden not only provides information on lavender varieties and the process of extracting lavender essence, but also offers samples of various lavender cultivation. Key attractions include the lavender distillery, the colorful flower fields, the Vanilla Lover, the vanilla variety garden, the lavender landscape garden, and the lavender essential oil workshop.

During peak bloom, the fragrance of the flowers fills the air, and the lavender sways in the wind. Take a leisurely stroll along the edge of the fields and soak in this beautiful countryside. Be sure to snap some photos; they'll be truly stunning!

【Kalajun Grassland】
Karajun, meaning "wild grassland on the mountain ridge" in Kazakh, is a hilly, three-dimensional grassland that's easier to view and photograph. In 2013, the Xinjiang Tianshan Mountains, including Karajun, were approved for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The Karajun Grassland is a natural alpine meadow. Every spring and summer, hundreds of species of grass bloom in succession, their vibrant colors accentuated by the lush green grassland. The grassland boasts forests and seas of flowers, with beautiful snow-capped mountains in the background. Herds of cattle and sheep roam the grasslands, and yurts dot the landscape, creating a scene that invites you to blend in with the blue sky and green land.

Zhaosu Tianma Park
Pastoral Zhaosu, hometown of Tianma

Located on the Karkant Grasslands, the Zhaosu Tianma Cultural Park is a horse-themed destination for professional equestrian sports, training, and competitions. It's also a popular destination for tourists from Xinjiang and beyond, offering grassland sightseeing, folk customs, and horseback riding. Visitors can see over a dozen renowned horse breeds, learn about equestrian skills, and experience horsemanship. Besides horseback riding, visitors can also enjoy horsemanship demonstrations and get up close and personal with the animals.

Turpan
The richest open-air archaeological museum in the world"
Turpan is also known as the "Fire Continent". In "Journey to the West", there is the Flaming Mountain where Sun Wukong fought against Princess Iron Fan. Here you can feel what "fire" is.

There is also the world's largest, oldest and best-preserved earthen city - Jiaohe Ancient City, one of the most prosperous ancient cities in the Western Regions in the past, and "the most perfect ruins in the world."

You can also appreciate the underground Great Wall (total length of 5,000 km) and the "underground canal" of ancient China - Karez, which has nurtured the people of Turpan since ancient times.

72% of Xinjiang's Uighur population lives here, so while you're here, you can visit local families, learn a few words of Uighur, dance with them, and experience local customs. Of course, don't forget to visit their shade house to learn how raisins are made and sample some sweet Xinjiang fruits and grapes.

Kumtag Desert
The Kumtag Desert is connected to the old city of Shanshan and is part of the Taklamakan Desert. It is also the desert closest to a city in the world.

Here, your children can learn about yet another geological landscape! Of course, while marveling at the vastness of the desert, you can also have some fun! Experience the desert on a surf buggy, ride camels, and sandboard. Everyone will have a blast, and then enjoy a spectacular sunset.

Sayram Lake
Sayram Lake, meaning "blessing" in Kazakh, is the largest and highest alpine lake in Xinjiang. It is one of China's most important wetlands in the arid western region and is known as "the last tear of the Atlantic Ocean." It is also one of Xinjiang's most famous attractions.

Snow-capped mountains, grasslands, azure lakes, blue sky and white clouds. From a distance, the lake is as smooth as a mirror, and the snow-capped mountains are reflected in the water, forming the most beautiful scenery in the borderland.

June to August is the best time to visit Sayram Lake. The temperature is perfect, the lakeside is covered with beautiful flowers, and the scenery is at its best. In July, if you're lucky, you might even see herders holding the Nadam Festival!

Colorful Southeast Yunnan
There are two places in Asia that have been selected by UNESCO as "models of human return to nature", one is Tibet and the other is Qiandongnan in Guizhou.

Guizhou's climate is ideal for summer vacations, with extensive forest coverage and a wealth of scenic landscapes, including Danxia, karst caves, canyons, and waterfalls. As a region inhabited by many ethnic minorities and isolated by the mountains, Guizhou has preserved a diverse and traditional culture, particularly in Qiandongnan Prefecture.
So when you come here, you can not only see the world-class natural scenery, but also experience the most original customs and folkways, and it can also help children have a more concrete concept of the 56 ethnic groups.

Pingtang Sky Eye
Pingtang is known for housing the world's most impressive telescope, the "China Sky Eye." This 500-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope is the world's largest single-aperture telescope, covering 250,000 square meters, equivalent to 30 standard football fields. A complete walk around it takes about 50 minutes, making it a national treasure.
It can receive radio wave signals from 13.7 billion light-years away, allowing you to hear sounds from space and even the edge of the universe. With your children, visit the Astronomy Town for an immersive look at the development of China's space program and delve into the Astronomy Technology Experience Hall to learn about the secrets of the universe.

1. Fast Spherical Radio Telescope
After passing through multiple security checks and taking a shuttle bus to the visitor center, where you'll need to deposit your electronics, you'll reach the trailhead for the observation deck. From the foot of the mountain, you'll ascend 1,544 steps, adorned with zodiac signs along the way, adding to the fun. The observation deck has three levels, allowing you to admire this "big pot lid" from varying perspectives.
2. Astronomy Experience Hall
There are several exhibition halls in the Astronomy Experience Hall, including a permanent exhibition area, a high-tech special cinema, a science and art gallery, a theme activity area and a temporary exhibition hall. It is divided into an introductory hall, a planetarium hall, a radio experience hall, a children's astronomy park, and an astronomy science popularization hall. It has a digital star hall, an interactive experience area (jumping space capsule, moon walk), an astronomical and geological simulation experience area, etc., which is very popular science.
3. Planetarium Cinema
Unlike regular theaters, the images here are overhead, creating a stunning 3D effect. The 20-minute screening tells the story of the origin of the universe. The best viewing experience is in the last row, toward the center.

Tips:
Tickets and transportation
The current ticket for Tianyan is a shuttle bus + astronomical experience hall + planetarium cinema, priced at 130 yuan.
Tickets for the shuttle bus and the astronomical experience hall are both 50 yuan. There is a long distance from the entrance of the scenic area to FAST, about 20 kilometers, and walking is not allowed on this section. The planetarium theater is optional (anyone entering the large radio observation deck is not allowed to bring mobile phones, digital cameras, smart bracelets, walkie-talkies and other electronic devices).
Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village
If you want to understand the mysterious Miao culture, you must come to Xijiang.
Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is the world's largest Miao village, consisting of five naturally built villages nestled against the mountain. Because Miao culture has taken root and been well preserved here, it's also known as a living Miao cultural museum.
Xijiang is worth spending 1-2 days in, with its small bridges, flowing water, and unique Miao stilt houses. At night, you can see the twinkling lights of thousands of houses, the vibrant rural scenery beside the village, and various performances about Miao culture.

Cultural Performances
When you arrive at the Miao village, locals will play reed pipes, and men, women, and children in their best clothes will sing and dance, holding ox-horn cups filled with rice wine to welcome the original guests. This is the most solemn hospitality etiquette of the Miao people - the twelve-door wine. However, there are time limits: the morning session is 10:30-12:00, and the afternoon session is 3:00-4:30;
Enjoy authentic song and dance performances both day and night within the village. Daytime performances are free, with admission provided (one from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and one from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM). Although only about half an hour long, they're deeply moving, especially at the end when dozens of local Miao elders sing in the Miao language. The evening's large-scale song and dance performance, "Beautiful Xijiang," is available for a fee (8:00 PM to 9:10 PM). While more professional than the daytime performances, the authentic Miao dances remain equally captivating.
At the Lusheng Performance Factory, you can watch Lusheng dance and other unique ethnic performances, which are also free of charge.

【Visiting the Ancient Village】
Although the Miao village has been commercialized now, this place is the village where the Miao people live. You may want to go deep into the village to see different scenery.
Climb the steps along the path next to Lusheng Square to find the Miao people's spiritual leader, Gu Zangtou, also known as the legendary Miao King. He oversees Miao rituals and oversees the sacred bronze drum. If you're lucky, you might encounter him and chat about Miao history and their lives.

【Walk the Old Street】
The construction of a commercial pedestrian street is also necessary for development. Here you can see various art shops and a variety of food shops. Next to the commercial street is a stream that runs through the village, and above it is the landmark building of the village, the Wind and Rain Bridge.
Besides shopping, you can also rent a Miao costume. This will not only allow you to better understand the structure of the Miao costume, but also allow you to capture this beautiful scenery and make memories. Of course, you can rent them not only by the Wind and Rain Bridge, but also at the observation deck, with rental fees ranging from 10 to 50 yuan.
There is also a real ancient street here, that is Gage Ancient Lane. This is an unremarkable alley, but it has a small pond at the source of the Xijiang River, the oldest Miao embroidery, and you can hear the ancient songs sung by wizards in the ancient song hall.
Of course, if you bring children, you must not miss some intangible cultural heritage experiences, such as ancient papermaking, Miao embroidery, batik, etc., which are all very good experiences.

【Miao Village Night View】
I've always found the night view here even more spectacular than the one in Spirited Away. The wooden stilt houses nestled against the mountainside take on a whole new look at night. From the observation deck high above the village, you can overlook the Miao village perched on the hillside. The twinkling stars and the dim lights are now a must-see.
Tips:
Tickets and Transportation
Xijiang ticket is 100 yuan + 4-way scenic bus transfer is 20 yuan. If you go more than 4 times, you need to pay an additional 10 yuan per time.
Libo Big and Small Seven Holes
Libo, a typical representative of "Southern Karst of China", has been rated as a World Natural Heritage Site, so its natural ecology must be good.
The area boasts a high forest coverage rate, including the world's largest preserved karst primeval forest. Negative oxygen ions reach over 180,000 per cubic centimeter, and the water system is exceptionally well-developed, from waterfalls to floating forests and underground rivers. With an average annual temperature of around 18°C, it's an ideal summer escape.

The Small and Big Seven Caves in Libo are divided into the Small Seven Caves Scenic Area and the Large Seven Caves Scenic Area. The Small Seven Caves, nicknamed "Little Jiuzhaigou," boasts a unique combination of forests, caves, lakes, rocks, and water in a narrow valley just one kilometer wide and less than ten kilometers long. The scenic area is arranged in a long strip, featuring attractions such as Wolong Pond, Yuanyang Lake, Dishui Waterfall, and Hanbi Pond. The terrain is higher in the west and lower in the east, so it's best to enter through the west gate and exit through the east gate. The hike is approximately ten kilometers long, and you can take a scenic shuttle bus to avoid long waits. However, be sure to confirm your destination before boarding.

1. Wolongtan
It's located at the outlet of the Wolong River, a subterranean karst river. It's called a "subterranean river" because its outlet is at the bottom of a cliff in a deep pool. Slow-motion photography here is incredibly beautiful. The water here is also a striking blue-green color, which can inspire children to explore why water appears in different colors.
2. Yuanyang Lake Forest Boating
Yuanyang Lake, a typical karst blind valley lake with emerald green water, gets its name from the two towering trees standing side by side within it. Boating is a must-try experience. Sitting in a metal boat and navigating the water maze feels like exploring the pristine Amazon jungle.
3. Water Forest
Named after the saying "trees grow among rocks and water flows over them," this creek-tracing route features a unique aquatic ecosystem found nowhere else in the world's karst landscapes. Children can enjoy playing in the water, strolling and playing, experiencing the wildness of nature and enjoying the cool summer weather.
4. Small Seven-Arch Bridge
Built in the 15th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, the ancient Seven-Arch Bridge, approximately 20 meters long and constructed of granite strips, is one of the scenic area's core attractions. Lying quietly above Hanbi Lake, surrounded by ancient trees and reflected in the water, the bridge is a must-see while marveling at the exquisite craftsmanship of the ancients and taking photos.
5. Big Seven Holes
The Big Seven-hole Caverns is not as long as the Small Seven-hole Caverns. It's named for its ancient bridge and canyon. The scenic area includes Tianshen Canyon, Tiansheng Bridge, the Big Seven-hole Caverns Ancient Bridge, the Demon Wind Cave, the Horror Gorge, and the Dream Pond. If you're short on time, the Small Seven-hole Caverns area is sufficient; the Big Seven-hole Caverns can be visited by car.

The food street in Libo Old Town is not long, but every restaurant is exquisite. I especially recommend Karst Yangmei and Zoupangge Zoupangge Haochi Restaurant (where they sell tofu fish, paper-wrapped grilled fish, and crispy roasted pork).

Tips:
Tickets and Transportation
Ticket for the Big and Small Seven-hole Pier: 130 yuan in peak season (limited access during summer, so buy tickets in advance), 110 yuan in off-season
Environmentally friendly car for the scenic area: 40 yuan/person (it is recommended to purchase it as the scenic area is large)
Yuanyang Lake boating: 30 yuan/person
Huanggang Dong Village
Southeast Guizhou is a place where you'll find countless villages representing various ethnic groups. For a family trip, we recommend Huanggang Dong Village. Compared to Zhaoxing, it's more pristine and feels like a paradise.
The small Dong village boasts five drum towers, surrounded by lush forests. At the foot of the rolling hills, cultivated paddy fields have been cultivated, where the Dong people have lived for generations. Fortunately, Huanggang remains largely undeveloped and tourist-free, allowing locals to maintain their traditional lifestyle dating back centuries. Whether exploring Dong architecture, traditional handicrafts, unique folk customs, or delicious cuisine, both adults and children can quickly gain a deep understanding of the Dong people's authentic culture.

1. Dong ethnic group's big song
The Dong folk song, a world-class intangible cultural heritage, features a multi-part harmony of high and low notes, differing from folk songs in its musical structure, singing techniques, and style. Today, the Dong folk song has made its way from the small fields of its hometown to the world stage, and its beautiful melodies are becoming more widely known.
Huanggang is also the only Dong village to celebrate the Shouting Heaven Festival. In the Dong language, "Shouting Heaven Festival" means worshiping the Thunder Goddess. To this day, every year on the 15th day of the sixth lunar month, young people return to their hometown, dress in their finery, and join in this grand celebration.
2. Intangible Cultural Heritage Rice-Duck-Fish System
It refers to a composite ecological agricultural system characterized by "planting a season of rice, releasing a group of fish, and raising a flock of ducks" in rice fields, where rice, fish, and ducks coexist and fish, rice, and ducks are harvested together.
With terraced fields accounting for a significant portion of the cultivated land, this landscape is common in Southeast Guizhou. It also offers children a variety of opportunities to experience the area. Roll up your trousers, go fishing and herd ducks in the fields, and experience the joys of this ancient farming method.
3. Handmade experience
From weaving, dyeing, drying, to beating, the traditional craftsmanship of hand-made Dong cloth can still be found here. Children and adults can learn the steps from the inheritors and make a piece of Dong cloth by hand.
The Dong ethnic group's houses, drum towers, and flower bridges are all made of wood. It is a very interesting experience to follow an experienced craftsman to do carpentry for a day.

Landscape in Guilin
When it comes to landscapes, Guilin is a must-see. Its reputation as "Guilin's landscapes are the best under heaven" has been renowned both domestically and internationally since the Tang and Song dynasties. In addition to its World Heritage status, Guilin is also one of the first national historical and cultural cities, boasting a rich cultural heritage and numerous historical sites. Its magnificent natural scenery and rich local customs attract tourists from all over the world, including heads of state and dignitaries, every year. So, let's talk about what to do with your children!

Day 1 Guilin (stay in Guilin city)
Day 2 Guilin - Longji Rice Terraces (Accommodation)
Day 3: Longji - Yangshuo - Xingping Ancient Town (Accommodation)
Day 4 Yangshuo (Accommodation)
Day 5 Yangshuo - Xianggong Mountain - Guilin
Nature Experience
In the Karst Kingdom, if you miss the mountains and rivers here, you will have wasted your trip. The most beautiful scenery can be seen in Guilin city and its surrounding areas.
【Xianggong Mountain】
Nothing is more captivating than mountains and water. Xianggong Mountain, nestled beside the Li River, is a favorite spot for photographers, offering year-round views of sunrises, seas of clouds, and rosy clouds. The changing light and shadows of each season create a unique visual impact. Reaching the summit takes only about 15 minutes, offering panoramic views of the serpentine peaks and the winding Li River. It's a perfect spot for parents with children.
There aren't many tourists visiting this place. If you have enough time, it's best to stay overnight in a guesthouse at the foot of the mountain so you don't miss the sunrise the next day.

Hiking along the Li River
A three-minute drive down a cement road from Xianggong Mountain brings you to the Li River. Here, a shaded path runs alongside the river. While it's a well-trodden path, it's untouched, offering a unique perspective on the Li River. Children can enjoy picking up a pebble and giving it new life as they watch the Nine Horses Painting Mountain and the water flow. They can also watch the throngs of boats and bamboo rafts, each a part of the scenery.

【Hiking along the Yulong River】
Compared to the grandeur of the 100-mile Li River, its tributary, the Yulong River, is more delicate and charming. Also known as the "Little Li River," the Yulong River is the longest tributary of the Lijiang River in Yangshuo. Cycling to it from Yangshuo County is a popular choice for almost everyone visiting Yangshuo.
It takes about 20 minutes to get there by bike, and if this is your first time in Yangshuo, I need to remind you that except for a few local cars that can enter the vicinity of Yulong River, everyone else can only ride bicycles or electric cars to travel.

If your child is older, taking them along for a ride through this tranquil green landscape is a truly relaxing experience. Summer is one of the most beautiful seasons, with lush rice fields along the river and lotus flowers blooming nearby.
During your trip, you can choose to experience the bamboo rafting on the Yulong River. Compared to the electric bamboo rafts on the Li River, the artificial bamboo rafts on the Yulong River are less noisy, allowing you to fully enjoy the pleasant pastoral scenery without having to listen to the noisy motors.
Geological Museum
Guilin boasts unique mountains and rivers, beautiful scenery, and a unique geographical environment, with typical karst landforms. Children can learn about karst landforms up close, understand the history of crustal changes, and develop a love for natural science.

【Caving】
You can't imagine the countless underground caves beneath these precipitous peaks and ridges. In Guilin, there are dozens of commercially accessible caves, and countless more untouched by the elements. This is precisely due to the unique charm of the karst landscape. Compared to the caves found in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, these are of a higher order.
The charm of caving lies in the fact that you never know what you'll see next. While the well-known caves include Silver Cave and Crown Cave, I recommend exploring more pristine caves. These, however, may require group tours.
Under the guidance of professionals, adults and children can systematically understand the mysteries of caves. They can find answers to questions about the formation of caves, cave organisms, and more, and become little geoexplorers.

[Outdoor Rock Climbing]
If the mountains and rivers are Guilin's business card that makes it famous overseas, then the natural advantages brought by the unique karst landform for rock climbing have made rock climbing enthusiasts all over the world fall in love with Yangshuo.
Rock climbing is a fun and extreme sport, and there are several climbing sites within Yangshuo's Ten-Mile Art Gallery. With professional instruction, even beginners and children can quickly master the skill. Rock climbing not only allows for a close-up look at the mountain's surface, but also offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains upon reaching the summit. This boosts children's confidence while also allowing them to appreciate the scenery from a different perspective. Besides rock climbing, there's also the via ferrata experience.

Folk Customs Experience
Guilin is a city rich in cultural heritage. For a long time in history, it served as the political and cultural center of Guangxi, home to over a dozen ethnic minorities, including the Zhuang, Yao, and Miao. Parents can explore the ancient town, discover its architectural wonders, experience the authentic customs and crafts of the ethnic minorities, and experience the purest Guangxi culture.

【Guizhou Opera】
Guilin's city attractions are enough to spend a whole day exploring. Besides making Guilin rice noodles, I highly recommend taking your children to see a Gui Opera performance. Originating in Guilin, Gui Opera is a national intangible cultural heritage and one of Guangxi's main operas. Sung in the Guilin dialect, it boasts beautiful, rhythmic vocals, a simple and delicate performance, and a gentle and moving singing style. You can enjoy this performance in East and West Alley. For a deeper understanding, take your children to a Gui Opera performance with a professional instructor—it will be a truly memorable experience!
Xingping Ancient Town
Xingping Ancient Town, also located on the Li River, is one of the most famous of Guilin's historic sites. It's the backdrop for the 20-yuan RMB note, and the reflection of the Huangbu River, a highlight of the Li River scenery, is also here. Decades ago, former US President Bill Clinton even visited the area. It's also one of the few ancient towns in China nestled between mountains and water.
The ancient town is small and can be explored in just half an hour. Its main attraction is a 1km-long stone-paved street, with various brick and tile buildings remaining in excellent condition. A Songhua candy shop in the town is doing quite well, but its origins are quite impressive. It's a part of Yangshuo's intangible cultural heritage, similar to shaqi ma, but even more delicious. You can even witness the production process, or even participate in it!
Osprey fishing
Remember the descriptions of cormorants in elementary school textbooks? Guilin's fishing and hunting traditions date back 9,000 years, and fishermen have relied on ospreys to catch fish, a livelihood passed down from generation to generation. In Xingping, you can visit the last remaining osprey family on the Li River and witness the river's oldest fishing methods. This experience will teach children about the harmonious cooperation between fishermen and ospreys, allowing them to experience the mysteries of human interaction and nature.

Longji Rice Terraces
Forests crisscross the mountaintops, villages are built on the mountainside, and terraced fields stretch along the edge and foot of the villages. This is an important agricultural cultural heritage site in China and one of the three largest terraced fields in China (the others are the Yuanyang and Jiabang terraced fields). This is the fruit of the hard work of the Zhuang and Yao people who have inhabited this area for generations. Only when you are immersed in this vast world of terraced fields can you deeply feel the infinite power of humanity.

How did people cultivate terraced fields hundreds of years ago? How do people irrigate the terraced fields on a daily basis? What folk traditions have the ethnic minorities living here preserved? These are questions that parents and children need to understand.
Dragon's Back is composed of several terraced fields, including Ping'an, Jinkeng, Guzhuang Village, and Xiaozhai. Families with children are recommended to spend two days visiting Ping'an Zhuang Village. Why?
1. Ping'an Village was developed the earliest among the villages, so the facilities are relatively complete, and there are more food and accommodation options. The most important thing is that it is relatively easy to enter and exit, and you don’t need to hike for too long to enjoy the scenery in the village. Even if you don’t want to walk, you can take a sightseeing bus directly to the observation deck.
2. The scenery of Ping'an Village is also quite classic.
Ping'an Village reaches a peak of 880 meters above sea level and a low of 380 meters. It boasts two scenic viewpoints: Nine Dragons and Five Tigers and Seven Stars and the Moon. Each is a 40-minute hike away. Watch the sunset from Nine Dragons and Five Tigers, and the sunrise from Seven Stars and the Moon. On summer evenings, light a lantern and venture out to spot dancing fireflies, or gaze upon a starry sky that rivals the Northwest! The sea of clouds after rain is truly spectacular, and with the ever-changing weather in the mountains, it's a worthwhile visit no matter the weather.

We can visit local elders and listen to them share their stories about the Zhuang people's traditions and lifestyle. We can also join them in making oil tea and bamboo rice. These are the most distinctive local delicacies, and you can try them yourself.
Desert Star Map-Ningxia
Desert Gobi, Yellow River civilization, customs of the frontier... Of course it is not desolate. Ningxia, known as the "Jiangnan of the Northern Frontier", is very suitable for parent-child travel. The show "Where Are We Going, Dad?" was filmed here.
There are many experiences to choose from, including the huge desert paradise Shapotou, Western Film and Television City, Helan Mountain Rock Paintings, Shuidonggou, Huangsha Ancient Ferry, Helan Mountain International Forest Park, Qingtongxia Grand Canyon, Liupan Mountain National Forest Park, etc. During the journey, children can also learn more geographical knowledge and experience a different Northwest.

Shapotou
Shapotou's unique geographical features were once selected as a wonder of the world by National Geographic. On the other side of Shapotou lies the renowned Tengger Desert. If you can't make it to Tengger, you can bring your children here to satisfy their cravings. Shapotou is now relatively well developed.
Here you can find China's largest natural sand-slide field, ancient water wheels, a representative of Yellow River culture, or experience a sheepskin raft or speedboat tour of the Yellow River.

Shapotou has garnered countless fans in recent years thanks to the popular show "Where Are We Going, Dad?" Beyond its scenic beauty, the area boasts a wealth of activities, making it a top destination for families. For a thrilling adventure, try the "World's First Yellow River Zipline," a zipline across the Yellow River. It's approximately 800 meters long and takes about a minute to zip across the river.

You can also roam the desert on a camel or in an off-road vehicle. If you want to relax and learn about desertification control, you can visit the museum within the scenic area. Of course, don't miss the stunning sunset over the Yellow River.

Zhenbeibao Film and Television City
When talking about film and television cities, the first thing that comes to mind is Hengdian, the "Hollywood". The architecture in Hengdian is mainly palace-style, Jiangnan courtyards, and modern and contemporary buildings.

But film and television dramas are not limited to these. Many of them depict the desert customs and the cultural landscape of the Northwest, and are shot in Zhenbeibao Film and Television City. After all, it is one of the three major film and television cities in my country. Before it became a film and television city, the film and television city was composed of sheep pens and ancient castles.
The famous film "A Chinese Odyssey" was filmed here, and many visitors choose to rent a set of ancient costumes and take photos in the same style. Parents and children can also experience the fun of filming here, becoming characters in the film and making their own family movies.

Helan Mountain Rock Paintings
Time is speechless, only stones can speak
"Drive a long chariot and trample the Helan Mountains." The poem "Flower-filled Tower" has made many people inexplicably familiar with the Helan Mountains. Its presence also prevented the desert from encroaching on the Ningxia Plain, resulting in the current "Northern Saijiang River" scene.
This is where many ancient inhabitants lived and thrived, inscribing every detail of their lives on the rock walls. Over time, this has left behind over 20,000 individual images and over 10,000 combined drawings, documenting the lives of these ancient inhabitants from 3,000 to 10,000 years ago.

The scenic area is divided into three main sections: the World Rock Art Museum, the ruins area, and the Han Meilin Art Museum. Before entering the ruins area, learn about the rock paintings at the World Rock Art Museum to prepare for your visit. Afterward, take a sightseeing bus into the ruins area, all on a flat road. While exploring, you'll also spot adorable blue sheep hopping among the rock faces.

Yellow River Stone Forest/Longwan Village
The Yellow River Stone Forest in Jingtai is a unique geological landscape in China due to geological processes such as crustal movement, weathering, and rain erosion. It is a fantastic masterpiece of nature's magic.
Riding a donkey cart into the canyon, you can see stone pillars on both sides reaching hundreds of meters high. The magnificence is no less than that of the Antelope Canyon in the United States. No wonder the Yellow River Stone Forest has become the filming location for many film and television dramas.

Nearby is Longwan Village, where the children and celebrity dads from the show "Where Are We Going, Dad?" stayed. From the top of the observation deck, you can overlook the magnificent stone forest covering an area of ten miles.
At the end of Yinmagou is Longwan Village's panoramic viewing platform. From its summit, you can overlook the vast expanse of the Stone Forest, stretching for dozens of miles. Parents can also take their children on a speedboat or sheepskin raft cruise along the Yellow River.

More ways to play
The most classic way to enjoy a trip to the desert is by hiking. A desert adventure is the best gift for your child's growth.

Connected to Shapotou, Tengger Desert is my country's fourth-largest desert. Unpolluted and far from cities, it offers dazzling views of the stars and the magnificent Milky Way at night. Footsteps on the fine sand, gaze at the distant sun, and patiently journey through the boundless desert. This journey demands teamwork and perseverance, while also experiencing the preciousness of life and a deeper appreciation for the importance of desert conservation.

Of course, the desert isn't just filled with yellow sand. Deep within, we'll discover a vibrant life. Rich underground springs, tenaciously growing green plants, and animals large and small. Seeing these things might just move your heart.

Parents and children accompany and encourage each other, and the distance between them becomes closer and closer.
ancient capital of Xi'an
As the ancient capital of 13 dynasties, one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, and one of the four ancient capitals of China, this old city with a profound historical and cultural heritage has now regained its new glory and has become an internet celebrity city that people are vying to visit in recent years.
Of course, becoming an internet celebrity requires some serious talent: The Terracotta Army, Huaqing Palace, and the Big and Small Wild Goose Pagodas boast historical sites spanning hundreds or even three thousand years. There are also carnival destinations like the Tang Dynasty City that never sleeps. And of course, there are also museums, the perfect educational destination for children, and mouth-watering Shaanxi cuisine. So, what's the best way to have fun with kids?
Game Guide
Historical sites, museums, and a wealth of intangible cultural heritage experiences are essential activities in Xi'an. While parents often dread the thought of moving luggage around, this worry is completely eliminated in Xi'an. Adults and children alike can easily immerse themselves in the rich history of the region.

Shaanxi History Museum
See the 5,000 years of Chinese history in one day
Parents who have watched "National Treasure" know that behind every cultural relic is an unknown story, and now those mottled cultural relics have come to life.

Museums should be your first stop when exploring Xi'an. Xi'an boasts seven or eight national-level museums, the most iconic of which is the Shaanxi History Museum, considered one of China's three largest museums alongside the Palace Museum and the Nanjing Museum. Its collection boasts 1.71 million artifacts spanning over a million years, earning it the nickname "a treasure house of Chinese history and culture."
Founded in 1983, the Shaanxi History Museum is a comprehensive historical museum covering 65,000 square meters. It's divided into a Tang Dynasty Mural Gallery, a Treasure Gallery, and four basic exhibition halls. It requires ample time to fully explore the collection, and it's crucial to have a guide, as even the most valuable artifacts will seem lost in the distance. However, you do need to reserve tickets in advance (they're free).

Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum
<The Eighth Wonder of the World>
It is one of the earliest World Cultural Heritage sites in China, and its cultural value goes without saying. Although I know a lot about it from textbooks and television, when you stand in front of the entire Terracotta Army, the unique craftsmanship and solemn and majestic aura of each individual are enough to shock you.
The Terracotta Army Museum is home to the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum's accessory burial pits. Currently, three of the four excavated pits are open to the public. Pit 1, the largest, houses the main military formation, alternating between chariots and infantry, with approximately 6,000 life-size terracotta figures. It's a magnificent sight, and most of what we know is about this pit. Pit 2, another pit, houses a mixed formation of chariots, cavalry, and crossbowmen, but excavation hasn't been carried out for cultural relic protection. Pit 3, the smallest, houses the command system, also known in ancient times as the "military tent." The unearthed terracotta figures include generals, warriors, and charioteers. The original painted decorations have faded due to fire (Xiang Yu burned the imperial mausoleum in history) and immersion, leaving many incomplete, but this doesn't diminish our appreciation. Listen to and watch as the guide reminisces about those distant stories.

Tips:

Xiamen Science and Technology Museum
Make science more fun
In recent years, this place has become a must-see destination for family trips, allowing children to experience the charm of science through play. The Xiamen Science and Technology Museum is a first-class comprehensive science and technology museum in Fujian Province and one of the most advanced in China. It features five themed exhibition halls (Aquarium, Exploration Hall, Harmony Hall, Creation Hall, and Children's Hall). A single ticket offers access to 400 interactive experiences! With staff on hand to provide explanations, parents don't have to worry about overwhelmed children. Best of all, this place is perfect for any weather!

Tips:
Venue Introduction
Harmony Hall: One of the children’s favorite venues, it has many interactive projects, mainly displaying holographic sound, people and health, environmental protection knowledge, and earthquake knowledge.
The Exploration Hall: This is the largest exhibition area. It features over 80 exhibits, including a magnetoelectric stage, a relativistic photon oscillator, and a mirror maze. All of them are hands-on and user-friendly! Animal lovers and children should definitely check it out.
Creation Hall: Mainly featuring digital devices, robots, and cars, allowing visitors to experience the infinite creative power of human beings.
Oceanarium: It is an exhibition hall with the theme of marine science, mainly for visiting and learning knowledge, exploring the origin of marine life.

Hekeng Tulou Cluster
Tulou, a traditional Han Chinese dwelling with distinct Chinese characteristics, has been inscribed on the World Heritage List. They can be found in Fujian, Jiangxi, and Guangdong, but Fujian's Hakka Tulou are the best preserved and most widespread, making Fujian the first place most people think of when mentioning Tulou.

Most people visit the Tulou in Nanjing or Yongding these days. The more developed Yunshuiyao and Tianluokeng Tulou clusters are also quite famous, though they also attract a lot of tourists. Fortunately, the undeveloped Tulou clusters are relatively untouched and still offer great value.
The Hekeng Tulou complex is one of these. It served as the filming location for the television series "Where Are We Going, Dad?" and "Big Fish and Begonia." However, it's not currently included in the government's two most popular routes, A and B, so commercialization is relatively rare.
Built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, 14 distinctive square and round buildings form a cluster of earthen buildings shaped like the Big Dipper. Wander among them and experience the ancient wisdom and unique architectural structures up close. Of course, be sure to visit the Lion Rock Observation Deck across from the village for a panoramic view of the scenery.
Xiapu Village
Xiapu Village, one of the departure ports along the Maritime Silk Road, is said to have been inhabited over a thousand years ago by descendants of the ancient Arab Xiapu people. Therefore, you can still see the distinctive Xiapu women's headdresses, featuring flower wreaths and ivory chopsticks. This tradition, introduced from Central Asia during the Song Dynasty and preserved to this day, has been designated an intangible cultural heritage.

Thousand-year-old bricks, ten-thousand-year-old oyster shells—perhaps this is how oyster shell houses came into being. These century-old houses are a traditional architectural feature of Quanzhou, southern Fujian. Built in this way, they offer sturdy walls, warmth in winter and cool in summer, and excellent sound insulation. Although this construction method has fallen into disuse, it has a history of over 400 years and retains a rich tradition and craftsmanship.

A person's world is theirs wherever they go. Why stay home and in the classroom during the summer? Take your children out for a walk to broaden their horizons, give them a chance to grow, and create a wonderful journey that parents and children can share memories of!
