Sajinqiao: An authentic Xi'an food district (you can also check out the food here in advance!)

Listen to us tell you about the past and present of Sajin Bridge, and explore the authentic Xi'an food gathering place where Xi'an people go. After crossing Sajin Bridge, we arrived at the Xicang Fish, Insect, Flower and Bird Market.

【Xicang Old Street】【Flower, Bird, Fish and Insect Market】City life in Xi'an

Browsing the stalls in Xicang is a daily routine for Xi'an residents. From general merchandise to antiques, every detail of daily life is covered here, including cat and dog puppies, bird cages, food and drinks. Childhood toys and memories of bygone eras can all be found here. This place is a part of the city's memory, a haven brimming with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Every Thursday and Sunday, when Xicang is open for business, the market is bustling with activity, with crowds thronging and bustling. After passing through Xicang North Alley, we can also experience the "cricket fighting" (a pastime enjoyed by royalty and commoners alike) in East Alley, where we can engage in a battle with the locals of Shaanxi.

【Xiaoxuexi Lane】This has been a gathering place for international students since the Tang Dynasty

Compared to the bustling Xicang, Xiaoxuexi Alley is more tranquil and relaxed. Nestled amidst the bustling city, Xiaoxuexi Alley has quietly preserved its legacy through thirteen dynasties and carries a profound historical significance. As early as the heyday of the Tang Dynasty, tens of thousands of Hu people lived there. Those who came to Chang'an to meet the emperor would learn Chinese and etiquette there, hence the name "Xuexi Alley."

[Shuyuan Gate] Calligraphy and Painting Square, where you can find the unique flirtation of Xi'an people

After wandering through the streets of everyday life, we arrived at another neighborhood that epitomizes Xi'an's local life. Here, we could smell the fragrance of books and ink, and hear stories of old Xi'an. It was a rare opportunity to find a moment of leisure amidst the bustling city center. We could also enjoy a quiet tea break between the Xi'an Ming City Wall and the screen wall of the Temple of Confucius in the Forest of Steles, sharing the joys of our trip with our group! Afterward, we headed to Sanxue Street, where we watched elderly people writing and young people carving seals, and time seemed to slow down. The street was full of the four treasures of the study: calligraphy and paintings, jade rubbings, seals, and picture frames. We even hired a local calligraphy artist to paint a fan for everyone, giving them a small souvenir.

Our exploration of the city's urban culture will end today at around 17:30. If you are still not satisfied, you can continue your visit here, or you can visit the Yongning Gate, Bell Tower, and Drum Tower on your own!
