Itinerary presentation

Today we begin a panoramic exploration of Hokkaido's winter scenery. After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to Asahikawa in due time.

丨Pilgrimage to the Holy Land/Otaru Canal and the Romance of the Taisho Period

Otaru—a filming location for numerous Japanese dramas and anime—was the commercial and trade center of Hokkaido during the Meiji and Taisho eras (1868-1926). Many of the stately stone buildings from that era, including banks and trading companies, still remain, creating a romantic cityscape around the Otaru Canal. Many of the century-old buildings along the canal have been converted into shops, cafes, and glassware studios. Explore the Kitaichi Glass Museum and the Music Box Museum. After your visit, return to downtown Sapporo and check into your hotel.

Lake Toya: Ice and snow hot springs and winter fireworks

Lake Toya, one of Hokkaido's three most famous scenic spots and part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, is also known as Caldera Lake. Despite its frigid location, it never freezes, offering captivating scenery everywhere you look.

Limited experience recommendation: Lake Toya Winter Fireworks; Time: February 3rd to 12th, 2026, every night at 8:30 PM (about 8 minutes)

All day

Itinerary presentation

Mornings by Lake Toya are always captivating. The tranquility of the lake and the fresh air are truly refreshing. If you're feeling up, wake up early to watch the sunrise over Lake Toya, then enjoy a delicious breakfast before starting your day.

丨Noboribetsu Hell Valley/Volcanic and Geothermal Duet

Noboribetsu Hell Valley is the site of a volcanic eruption. The air is filled with a strong sulfurous odor, and the area is barren, hence the name Hell Valley. Surrounded by mountains, shrouded in mist, and surrounded by the local mace-wielding demons, it feels like entering a hell of ears and noses.

丨Asahiyama Zoo/Japan Zoo to the North

Asahiyama Zoo, Japan's northernmost zoo, specializes in cold-weather animals, a unique feature of the area. The zoo meticulously creates a natural habitat, providing a comfortable environment for over 700 animals from 124 species.

One of Asahiyama Zoo's main goals is to showcase animals in their natural habitats. You can watch harbor seals dart through the water through a light green tunnel and swim in a transparent pool called "kaido." You can also see penguins swimming so freely in the water that they appear to be flying, and polar bears diving and playing.

The most popular attraction is definitely the Penguin Snow Walk, which we will go to see. The Penguin Walk takes place twice a day, with the official release times being 11:00 and 14:30.

This solitary tree, especially against the backdrop of snow, is a favorite of photographers!
