The Taihang Mountains stretch for thousands of miles and are majestic, but they are relatively short of water. However, Henan, where Zixia Pass is located, has relatively abundant water.

There is a Huanglong Cave along the route, where you can see its true appearance. Then you will come to the Shuilong Cave Waterfall, where a stream of clear spring gushes out and flows down the mountain stream. It is magnificent and worth the trip.

Feeling the beauty of nature in front of the waterfall and washing and resting by the stream will make you feel particularly happy. Shangwuyu is a nice small mountain village in Taihang Mountains and a summer hiking destination for hikers.

Around 9 o'clock: Arrived at the destination two hours later, took a short break and started climbing

9:15: Arrive at Sandie Waterfall and admire the magnificent waterfall that looks like the Milky Way falling from the sky

10:30: Arrive at the Daughter Ladder and explore the origin of the love story between Zhang Liang and the Empress Dowager.

11:30: Arrive at Duishou Temple, enjoy a delicious farm-style stew, and take a short break (meals at your own expense)

13:40: Arrive at Huanglong Cave and witness the mysterious underground river of Taihang Mountain

14:10: Arrive at Bailong Cave and explore the wonderful world of undeveloped caves

15:10: Arrive at Shuilong Cave and feel the majestic momentum of the gushing spring and admire the spectacular waterfall

16:00: Arrive at Shangwuyu, a small village in the Taihang Mountains full of tranquility and nature.

16:30: Arrive at Shizhaimen and experience the grandeur and vicissitudes of the ancient pass

17:00: Arrive at Zixiaguan and board the bus back to Zhengzhou

This route is about 8 kilometers in total, with a maximum altitude of 1,124 meters and a cumulative climb of about 600 meters. It is a leisure route, suitable for beginners to participate in hiking for the first time, and also suitable for family travel.

Destination Introduction

[Route Introduction] Zixia Pass, also known as Pangu Pass, Mengmen Pass, and Baixing Pass (the third of the Eight Paths of Taihang Mountains), is located at the southern foot of the Taihang Mountains. In ancient my country, many official uniforms were purple, a color associated with official positions. Purple air was once a symbol of good fortune. Legend has it that before Laozi passed through Hangu Pass, the commander, Yin Xi, saw purple air coming from the east, predicting that a sage would soon pass. Indeed, Laozi arrived riding a green ox. Some scholarly families often have plaques on their gates inscribed with the phrase "Purple Air Coming from the East." Zixia Pass is located east of Fushan Mountain in the Taihang Mountains. It receives the sun's rays early each day, with the faint glow of the morning sun rising in the east. Fickle golden rays shimmer through the treetops, tinting the mountain mist purple, earning it the nickname "Zixia Pass."

Sandie Waterfall is located in Yakou Village, Shangbali Town, Huixian County, Xinxiang City. Stretching from the afternoon valley to the morning valley, it stretches approximately 300 meters. It remains pristine to this day and, with no admission fee, is known as the "last virgin land of the Southern Taihang Mountains." Li Bai coined the phrase "the cascade plummets three thousand feet, as if the Milky Way descends from the heavens" to describe the Lushan Waterfall. Compared to the national-level Lushan Waterfall, Sandie Waterfall is more secluded, quieter, and more hidden. Spring water from Huanglong Cave in the morning valley flows down a canyon at the border of Henan and Shanxi provinces. A mountain trail leads to a clear stream meandering at the bottom of the ravine. The water cascades down a cliff into a pool, emerging as a waterfall from Laolongkou. The water here is abundant and crystal clear. During midsummer, residents from surrounding areas flock here to enjoy the water, creating a vibrant scene.

There's a beautiful legend about the Daughter's Ladder and the Duitou Temple: Legend has it that during the Qin Dynasty, Zhang Liang attempted to assassinate Qin Shi Huang at Bolingsha, but accidentally struck the auxiliary chariot. After his failure, he fled to Guanshan, evading the Qin army. After helping Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, unify the empire and establish the Western Han Dynasty, he retired and returned to Guanshan to live in seclusion. Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, traveled from the capital, Chang'an, to Guanshan, hoping to recruit Zhang Liang to assist him in government affairs. Zhang Liang was in the Tiejianggou of Guanshan. He played the flute in the front mountain, and Liu Bang heard the flute sound from the back mountain; then he played the flute in the back mountain, and Liu Bang heard the flute sound from the front mountain. Liu Bang could only hear the melodious flute drifting through the air, but he couldn't find Zhang Liang. Desperately, Liu Bang muttered to himself, "My dear minister Zifang has become an immortal!" Zhang Liang secretly said, "Thank you, Lord, for your grace!" Unable to find Zhang Liang in Guanshan, Liu Bang returned to the capital in a depressed mood. But the princess' heart was always with Zhang Liang. Upon hearing the news, she traveled a thousand miles from Chang'an to Guanshan to search for him. Unable to find the way, the princess arrived at the foot of a cliff near Yakou, climbing up along a natural crack in the cliff. From time to time, she used her golden hairpin to scratch and repair the crack, creating a shortcut up and down the mountain.
To commemorate this innocent love, later generations named their retreat Zhangliang Ridge, Zhangliang Cave, Huanggu Stack, and Huanggu Cave, respectively. The three vertical cracks the princess climbed were called "Daughter's Cracks." A local saying goes, "Daughter's Cracks, three times up, and if you can't climb it, you'll die."

Later, people built a "Duitou Temple" (Duitou Temple is now an ancient Taihang village with 7 or 8 households) at the place where the two first met on Nv'erfeng. Later generations opened up Nv'erfeng and built a staircase into a two-meter-wide stone staircase, which was called "Nv'erfeng Ladder" (Nv'er Ladder).

The daughter ladder was built on the cliff and is about 2 meters wide. It looks steep, but it is not dangerous.
