Tucked away in the mountains of Fukushima, Aizuwakamatsu is a city steeped in tradition and calm. It’s the kind of place where every street feels like it has a story—and the slower you go, the more you discover.

My day started at Tsuruga Castle, a beautifully reconstructed samurai-era fortress surrounded by trees and history. Whether you’re climbing to the top or just wandering the grounds, the view is always peaceful.

Later in the afternoon, I stopped by Adoriya Kitademaru Café, tucked just beside the castle. Their apple-shaped cake is almost too cute to eat—almost. Paired with a cup of tea, it was the perfect little break.

Aizuwakamatsu isn’t flashy, but that’s what makes it so special. Quiet, meaningful, and full of small moments you’ll remember long after you’ve left.
