A Royal Palace for the People, Amsterdam Royal Palace

The Amsterdam Royal Palace stands majestically at the heart of the city, in Dam Square, serving as the official ceremonial palace of the Dutch royal family. Originally built in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age as a City Hall, it symbolized the wealth and power of Amsterdam, acting as a palace for its citizens.

In 1808, when Napoleon's brother Louis Bonaparte ascended the throne, the City Hall was transformed into a royal palace. To this day, it is used for royal ceremonies, banquets, and receptions for foreign dignitaries.

Today, the palace is open to the public, offering a chance to admire the art, sculptures, and architecture of the Dutch Golden Age.
