The first equestrian statue of Atatürk, the father of Türkiye's founding father, was carved in 1927 by Austrian sculptor Heinrich Krippel and is now in Ankara.

Atatürk is considered the founder of the Republic of Turkey. The Turkish parliament prohibits anyone else from using his surname. After establishing a provisional government in Ankara, he defeated the troops sent by the Allies and subsequently began a series of political, economic and cultural reform programs.
