In the old days, the only way to get from Honshu to Hokkaido was by ferry.

Currently, the Seikan Tunnel connects Honshu and Hokkaido by land via the Shinkansen, but in the past, they used to transport trains by ship.

Of course, there were airplanes back then, but they weren't as common as they are now, so it must be considered almost the only one.

It's in Aomori, which is known to have the most snow in Japan, and you can get there within a 5-minute walk from the station!!
