When you come to Asahikawa, the must-see attraction is definitely Asahiyama Zoo. Many people also take a day trip from Sapporo. Since we are traveling by car, we chose to stay in Asahikawa for one night. The most famous thing about Asahiyama Zoo is the Penguin Walk, which is only held in winter from late December to mid-March every year (please refer to the official website for detailed opening hours). There are only two performances a day. This performance is actually to solve the problem of the penguins' lack of exercise in winter, and it also allows visitors to appreciate the original habits and ecology of the penguins.

November 11, 2022 (Friday) ~ April 9, 2023 (Sunday)
10:30 am ~ 3:30 pm (last admission/3:00 pm)

Admission: 1,000 yen for adults, free for junior high school students and below
