Auckland's Icon: Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill

Maungakiekie, also known as One Tree Hill, is a historic volcanic cone and ancestral mountain (Tūpuna Maunga) in Auckland. It was once one of the largest fortified Māori villages. The obelisk at its summit was erected in honor of Māori people and also serves as the burial place of Sir John Logan Campbell, one of Auckland's founding figures. Although the namesake tree no longer stands, the hill continues to offer breathtaking panoramic views of the city and remains an excellent destination for exploring Auckland's natural and cultural heritage.
