This is a service area with a large Ferris wheel that can be seen immediately after crossing the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge from the Honshu side (Kobe side) and entering Awaji Island. It is also the Awaji IC exit. Some people often call this place the highway oasis, but it is actually the "Awaji Service Area (Downbound)". The highway oasis is a service area on the mountain side.
Facility name: Awaji Service Area (Downbound)
Location: Located on the Kobe Awaji Naruto Expressway
Business hours: Food court 24 hours, convenience store 24 hours, other stores vary
The large Ferris wheel and the spectacular view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (with Starbucks) are famous, but what I personally want you to see is the model of the cables used in the bridge. The beautiful Akashi Kaikyo Bridge was opened safely despite being delayed during the Great Hanshin Earthquake. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for all those involved in its development.
There is a 3,000 yen/1 turn Awaji Beef Gacha, so why not try it as a souvenir? Although it is a SA in Hyogo Prefecture, it has a wide selection of souvenirs from Kansai and Shikoku. I haven't been there, but I do buy souvenirs from Ehime lol
