My visit to Baiyun Mountain, also known as White Cloud Mountain, offered a breath of fresh air—literally and figuratively—in the heart of bustling Guangzhou. The moment I entered the scenic area, a sense of calm washed over me. Lush greenery surrounded the paths, and the air felt cooler, cleaner, a pleasant change from the city below.
I chose to walk rather than take the cable car, letting the gentle uphill path lead me through shaded lanes and scenic lookouts. Along the way, locals were doing tai chi, families picnicked under the trees, and joggers passed with relaxed smiles. The climb was leisurely but rewarding, with views gradually opening up as I gained elevation.
When I reached one of the main viewing points—Moxing Ridge—I paused to take in the panorama. Guangzhou stretched out in the distance, its skyline softened by the haze and framed by mountains. It was a peaceful contrast: the stillness of the mountain against the motion of the city. A light breeze moved through the trees, and birdsong accompanied the moment.
At the summit, I stopped for a tea break at a hilltop café, sipping a warm cup while watching clouds drift lazily across the sky. The serenity of Baiyun Mountain reminded me how nature can exist side by side with a fast-paced city, offering a gentle reminder to slow down.
Leaving the mountain, I felt refreshed—body and mind. Baiyun wasn’t just a mountain; it was a retreat, a local treasure where quiet beauty still thrives above the urban rhythm.
