If you climb the Bedugul mountains in the morning, fog descends on the lake, making the temple seem to stand right on the water. This is Pura Ulun Danu Bratan—one of Bali's most recognizable landmarks.
The temple was built in the 17th century and dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of water. Farmers come here to pray, as Lake Bratan is the source of many canals that feed rice fields across the island. When the water is still, the reflection of the pagodas in the fog makes it look as if the temple is floating among the clouds.
📍 Location: Bedugul district, Lake Bratan, northern Bali (approximately 1.5–2 hours from Ubud).
🕐 When to visit: in the morning, while the lake is hazy and there are no tourists. After 10 a.m., the fog clears, and the temple takes on a completely different appearance.

How to visit Pura Ulun Danu on a budget
💰 Ticket: Around IDR 75,000 (approximately $5).
🛵 How to get there: Scooter: $6-8 per day; the drive from Ubud takes about two hours. If you don't drive, renting a car with a driver costs $25-30 for half a day.
☕ Tip: Bring a warm jacket—it gets chilly in the mountains, especially in the morning. And try the local strawberry juice: Bedugul is famous for its berries.
