700-year-old golden Buddha statue at Wat Traimit

Take the BTS Skytrain to pay respects to the Golden Buddha at Wat Traimit Witthayaram, formerly known as Wat Sam Chin. According to legend, it was built by three Chinese immigrants to Thailand. A must-see highlight of Wat Traimit is the magnificent Phra Maha Mondop, which houses the 700-year-old Phra Phuttha Maha Suwan Patimakorn, or Golden Buddha. It is the largest pure gold Buddha image in the world, and has even been recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records.

How to get there: MRT Hua Lamphong, Exit 1, 5-minute walk.
