Exploring Bangkok’s Oldest Temple – Wat Pho

#watphobangkok

Wat Pho, the oldest temple in Bangkok. Its original name, Wat Photaram, comes from the sacred Bodhi tree in India, under which Buddha attained enlightenment.

As a royal temple, Wat Pho is stunning—towering pagodas with intricate details, a massive 46-meter-long golden Reclining Buddha, and breathtaking murals covering every corner. The atmosphere was peaceful, and surprisingly, there were very few tourists from China.

Free entry and complimentary snacks for visitors, Theravāda Buddhism encourages sharing and spreading the teachings. Monks here still follow the tradition of alms collection—eating whatever is offered, without rejecting meat. It feels like a closer connection to Buddha’s original way of life.
