Notes on roaming routes for classic landmarks in Beijing

To feel the most authentic Beijing city rhythm, walk along Qianmen Avenue, almost all the classic landmarks and cultural attractions of Beijing. There are not only extremely historical buildings along the way, but also fun and authentic markets and snacks for those who want to take pictures of Beijing’s landmarks or those who are visiting Beijing for the first time.

Recommended tour routes:
Itinerary Recommendation Start at Qianmen Avenue, go to Zhengyangmen and Zhengyangmen-Arrow Tower, then walk to the cultural-filled Grand fence, then turn to Fresh Fish Mouth Snack Street, continue along the road to Tiananmen Square, queue into Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, complete a humanistic journey combining history, culture and authentic snacks.

Must-see photo spots and attractions:
1. Zhengyangmen-Arrow Tower (North end of Qianmen Avenue, Beijing, 09:00-17:00, closed on Mondays)
Climb the building overlooking the entire front door area, feel the majesty of Beijing City Gate in the past, and enjoy the details of the ancient architecture up close.
Note that admission stops at 16:30 and better sunlight is recommended from morning to noon for photography.

2. Zhengyangmen (inside Tiananmen, Chang'an Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing, 09:00-17:00)
It is an important landmark on the traditional central axis of Beijing, witnessing the rich history of old Beijing. It is recommended to walk over from Qianmen Avenue and feel the intertwining of ancient and modern times.

3. Da Tsai (Da Tsence, Xicheng District, Beijing, open all day)
The classic pedestrian street of Old Beijing is full of nostalgic atmosphere. There are many old-fashioned shops, teahouses, Chinese medicine shops and authentic snack shops along the street. It is recommended to stroll slowly and look for specialty snacks such as traditional sugar gourd and Chinese pastries.

4. Fresh Fish Mouth Snack Street (Yuyu Town, Daxing District, Beijing)
Highly recommended to go inside for authentic snacks. A variety of traditional Beijing dishes and dim sum are easy to try.

5. Chairman Mao Memorial Hall (East Avenue, Qianmen, Dongcheng District, Beijing, 08:00-12:00, closed on Mondays)
One of the most representative monumental buildings in Beijing, security checks are stricter, queues are required to enter, and photography is strictly prohibited inside. It is recommended to arrive before 9am to queue up to save time.

6. Tiananmen Square
You must make an appointment at least one day in advance on the WeChat applet, otherwise you will not be able to approach the Tiananmen area.

7. Palace Museum (No. 4, Jingshanqian Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing)
Also known as the Forbidden City in Beijing, it is a museum located in the Forbidden City of Beijing, People’s Republic of China.
The Palace Museum is closed on Mondays throughout the year except statutory holidays
Tickets must be booked in advance for visits, starting at 20:00 7 days before the visit. Annual pass spectators must register to visit at least one day in advance. After brushing the certificate and checking the ticket, I visited the hospital.

- There are many walking routes along the way, comfortable footwear is recommended.
- Remember to bring water and a spare umbrella.
- Many attractions are closed on Mondays or have specific lunch breaks.
- Security is strict at the entrance of Chairman Mao Memorial Hall. Large backpacks and cameras are prohibited and must be kept quiet.
- Big Track and Fresh Fish Mouth is very crowded on holidays, go early to avoid the crowds.
