Thung Sanam Luang, or Sanam Luang, is a large field located in front of Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit Rajaworamahawihan, between the Grand Palace and the Bowon Sathan Mongkhon Palace, in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok.
Sanam Luang has a long history dating back to the reign of King Rama I. It was originally used as a site for royal ceremonies, such as the construction of crematoriums for royal funerals of kings and members of the royal family. During the reign of King Rama IV, the area was officially named "Thung Sanam Luang."
