In Thailand, getting VAT refund is easy. Firstly, you have to purchase items which can be VAT refund. The store has to process the VAT refund for you. You will keep the receipts until the day you depart Thailand. When you arrive at the airport, you will have to verify your VAT refund receipts at the VAT Refund counter BEFORE you check in/enter the immigration. You will go to departure hall row U.

If you did not receive a stamp from the officers on your receipts, then you will say byebye to your VAT refund. Even though the officers will not ask to see your purchases, it is better you do not check in your luggage at this point. The officers might ask to view your purchases, especially for high value items, before they give you the approval stamp.

Then you will proceed to check in for your flights and luggage. Then enter the immigration and after immigration, you will be inside the transit area. Then you will locate the VAT refund office again. This is whereby you will get back money for your VAT refund. You will have to present all your stamped receipts, passport and boarding pass.
