Located near the capital, Baku, is Yanar Dagh, which means "burning hill" in Azerbaijani.
Azerbaijan, whose name means "land of fire," is a treasure trove of natural resources, including natural gas, oil, and minerals, thanks to the Caspian Sea.
As a result, natural gas erupts from many places.
(This environment helped Zoroastrianism, which worships fire as a god, flourished.)
It is said that Yanar Dagh spontaneously combusted after natural gas erupted from a crack in the rock, and has been burning for 2,000 years since then.
Until about 200 years ago, the entire area was engulfed in flames, creating a truly impressive sight. Unfortunately, only a small part of the remains remain.
The site also houses a historical museum, souvenir shop, and cafe.
Outdoor facilities include a historical park with children's playground equipment and ancient stone monuments.
