Wat Phra Kaew (Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram)

Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram, commonly known as Wat Phra Kaew, was a temple that King Rama I ordered to be built along with the establishment of Rattanakosin in 2325 B.E. It is a temple in the Grand Palace, like Wat Phra Si Sanphet, which was a temple in the Royal Palace during the Ayutthaya period. His Majesty intended Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram to be the place for the enshrining of the Phra Phuttha Maha Mani Rattana Patimakorn and to be the place for performing royal merit-making ceremonies. Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram is a temple with no monks residing there because it only has the Buddhavasa area and no Sanghavasa area. Inside Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram, there are many important and accompanying buildings. Therefore, the buildings are divided into 3 groups according to their position and importance as follows: The Ubosot group is the most important group, with the Ubosot as the main building which enshrines the Phra Phuttha Maha Mani Rattana Patimakorn, surrounded by the surrounding pavilions, Phra Phothat Phiman, and the Ratchaphong Sanuson Hall. Royal Memorial Hall, Bell Tower and Phra Khanthararat Hall King Rama I graciously ordered the construction of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram along with the construction of the Grand Palace and the establishment of Bangkok as the capital in 1782. It was built according to the tradition of building royal temples in the palace grounds that had existed since the past, such as Wat Mahathat in the Sukhothai Palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet in the Ayutthaya Palace. The important characteristic of royal temples in the palace is that they only have a Buddhist area and no Sangha area. #BeautifulTemplesThailand #BeautifulTemplesInBangkok #WatPhraKaew #WatPhraKaew
