So you want to travel by train in Java? Don’t know how to pre-book tickets? Fear not, this post has you covered.
Trains in Java are surprisingly nice and easy to navigate. I recently took a train all the way from Banyuwangi to Surabaya in economy class. Very clean and comfortable, more so than my home country of England.
The duration? Approximately 6 hours. The price? A whopping £2.50 or 56,000 IDR. A far cry from the prices that would be charged back home. UK trains for the same duration would cost in excess of £100, maybe even closer to £200 or £300.
So… the all important question… how do you pre-book?
There is a government App you can download called ‘Access by KAI’.
The signup process is easy and they take major debit cards. All prices are clearly displayed alongside timetables and station finders. For a country that isn’t yet as developed as the west, it is a really well designed app.
