The History of the Capital Region - Zhili Governor-General's Office Museum

#SeptemberGoodPlaces2025
Walking into the Zhili Governor-General's Office Museum in the heart of Baoding City feels like opening a door into time. The neatly arranged courtyards of the government office, built of blue bricks and gray tiles, boast a towering memorial archway and a majestic vermilion gate. Walking through the front and back courtyards, the clatter of Qing Dynasty officials and the reverberation of imperial drums echo in my ears. The memorials, documents, and artifacts displayed in the exhibition halls recreate the grandeur of the Zhili Governor-General's administration of northern China and illuminate the turbulent history of the late Qing Dynasty. The slanting afternoon sun, flickering through the carved doors and windows, evokes a glimpse into a time of both prosperity and turmoil. Leaving, the rich atmosphere of history still lingers in my heart, as if I too have been part of that era when decisions were made.
