I visited the Holy Mother Virgin Nativity Cathedral alone around 2 PM, and my first impression was overwhelming! The Gothic-style building suddenly appeared in the heart of Batumi, making me feel like I'd been transported somewhere in Europe.

The allure of the exterior: The two tall spires pierce the sky, a truly magnificent sight! The bright stone exterior walls and intricate carvings sparkle in the sunlight, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The statues of the apostles on either side of the main entrance especially added to the mystical atmosphere.

The wonder of the interior: Stepping inside, I was struck by the breathtaking space, with its high ribbed vaulted ceilings and massive stained glass windows. The afternoon sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows, creating rainbow-colored lights on the floor, was truly magical!

💡 Tips for Visiting at 2 PM

This is the perfect time to enjoy the most natural light! The light filtering through the stained glass illuminated the interior frescoes beautifully, making them perfect for taking photos. The number of tourists was just right, so I was able to quietly admire every nook and cranny of the interior and even take a moment to meditate in front of the iconostasis (the iconostasis).

A special discovery: I discovered the construction years 1897-1903 engraved on the floor mosaic! There were also some areas decorated with special stones that changed color depending on the weather, which was fascinating.
