May and June are great months to travel in the off-season to a lesser-known city on a budget.

Here is a travel guide for Beihai, Guangxi:
Transportation
• External transportation: Beihai has a high-speed train station, which can be reached by high-speed train from all over. There is also an airport, but you may need to transfer flights from some cities.
• City transportation: You can choose to take the bus, which covers the main attractions. Renting an electric bike is convenient and fast, suitable for short trips, and costs about CNY 30 per day. Taxis are also convenient.
Accommodation
• Near Silver Beach: Convenient for travel, with many restaurants nearby. I recommend Yanmu Homestay in Beihai Silver Beach. It has a good environment, and some room types include free use of electric bikes.
• Near Beihai Old Street: You can feel the historical atmosphere, and there are specialty snack shops nearby.
Attractions
• Silver Beach: The sand is fine. You can visit the ice sculpture exhibit at the Ice Wonderland, the rare jellyfish at the Marine Wonderland, and take photos at the Fashionable Marine World in the Silver Beach Three Pavilions. You can also experience a catamaran yacht and enjoy the coastal scenery.
• Qiaogang Style Street: Very popular, with seafood barbecue, local dishes, and snacks. You can taste authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The sunset at Qiaogang Beach nearby is beautiful, and you can take photos of the "Santorini" windmill.
• Beihai Old Street: Nanyang-style arcade buildings with many snacks and dessert shops where you can feel the historical charm.
• Weizhou Island: One of China's youngest volcanic islands. You can visit the Volcanic Geological Park to admire the complete remains of volcanic activity. Watch the sunrise at Colorful Beach, and the sunset at Shiluo Mouth Beach, Muye Cliff, and Dripping Water Danping. You can also cycle around the island and visit attractions such as the Catholic Church.
Food
• Seafood: There are many varieties of shrimp, crabs, shellfish, etc., which can be tasted in Qiaogang Style Street, Waisha Seafood Island, and other places.
• Specialty snacks: There are crab noodles, rice rolls, and fried ice. Vietnamese spring rolls, fetal duck eggs, and other Vietnamese delicacies are also worth a try.
When traveling, pay attention to sun protection measures. The ultraviolet rays are strong in summer, so avoid sunburn. If you want to experience catching the sea, you need to understand the tide time in advance and prepare relevant tools.
