Tong He Ju – Timeless Taste

#GetDiscountsWithoutLuck

An old Chinese restaurant in Harbin that not only has a long history since 1822, but also comes with magic hidden in every dish.

On the day we went to try it, we were not sure of the exact name of the menu, but it was a menu that had been recommended by Michelin. It was a meat menu—probably pork or chicken—stir-fried with a dark sauce. The aroma was so smooth that you could feel it even before putting it on the plate.

Another highlight dish that day was Peking duck, served with soft dough and a full range of side dishes. The duck skin was crispy and thin, coated with a little bit of oil from being baked until just right. When you bite into it, it was crispy, followed by the sweet and mellow taste of the sauce and fresh cucumber. It was a perfect bite that didn't need any additional seasoning.

The yellow dessert that we ordered to finish it off (probably sweet steamed eggs) did not disappoint at all. The texture was soft and smooth, fragrant, and just the right amount of sweet. Eating it was like taking a break from the intense flavors.

Tong He Ju is not a restaurant that comes with excitement, but it is an experience full of traces of the past and flavors that remind us of something... without needing to explain.
