The Great Wall at night, the only section in Beijing

We had the opportunity to stay at Gubei Water Town, an ancient water town right next to Simatai Pass, making it a short walk from our hotel to the cable car station. So convenient!

What's exciting is that the cable cars here operate both day and night, which is rare, as most passes close in the evening. Simatai Pass is one of the few passes open at night, and the scenery from sunset to dusk is truly stunning.

The nighttime cable car starts around 5:30 PM, and the round-trip fare is 120 yuan per person. Riding the cable car here feels very "natural", as it remains pristine, with minimal renovations or alterations. Some sections of the path are still the same, with no side rails, and some are quite steep. If you're going up, we recommend wearing good shoes and taking caution.

Even though the path is a bit steep, once you get there, it's well worth it. The views of the rolling mountains and the endless Great Wall, combined with the dim night lights, make you feel like you've traveled back in time.
