The Grandest Square in China

#urbanexplorer #tripblazers #beijing

Tiananmen Square, named after the Gate of Heavenly Peace that separates the square from the forbidden palace. This is the place where the founding of the People’s Republic of China was first announced by Mao Zedong, who’s mausoleum is located here as well as a large painting on the gate to the north.

One of the highlights for visiting is seeing the Monument to the People’s Heroes, with the inscription ‘eternal glory to the people’s heroes’ written in Mao’s own handwriting.
