Umi Jigoku

You can reach Umi Jigoku by taking bus number 2 or 5 from Beppu Station and getting off at the Umi Jigoku-mae stop. The bus ride takes about 15 minutes, and the entrance fee is 450 yen.

Umi Jigoku is the largest of Beppu's seven hell hot springs. It gets its name because the spring water from Mount Tsurumi has a deep blue color, resembling the ocean, and the water temperature reaches up to 98 degrees Celsius, making it a 'hell' hot spring!

Next to the pool, there is a path lined with a thousand torii gates. Climbing the stairs will lead you to the Hakuryu Inari Shrine, where you can offer a prayer. 🙏 On the other side of the pool, there is a small red pond. Finally, don't forget to soak your feet in the foot bath near the exit. ❤️
