I went on a rental car trip to Hokkaido, Japan!
I took a day trip to Biei and Asahikawa, and here are my top five picks!

🚘Rental Cost: Around 8,000 yen (basic car)

1. Shikisai-no-Oka ☺️
Shikisai-no-Oka, Biei's signature flower garden, boasts a truly impressive panoramic view of colorful flowers. In summer, you can see lavender, sunflowers, cosmos, and other flowers, and the changing scenery each season is also captivating. Take a leisurely ride on a tractor bus for a more leisurely tour.
2. Patchwork Road & Panorama Road😍
Colorful crops cover each hill, creating a landscape that resembles a patchwork quilt when viewed from the air. The section known as "Roller Coaster Road" is particularly thrilling to drive.
3. Aoiike (Blue Pond)🏞
While not naturally formed, the pond was created to prevent the flow of volcanic ash, and the aluminum in it gives it a mystical blue hue. The changing colors with the season and weather are also worth seeing, making it a delightful sight no matter when you visit.
4. Ken & Mary Tree, Shirahige Falls, and other cinematic landscapes🏡
The "Ken & Mary Tree," famous for its appearance in commercials, creates a dramatic scene even with just one pine tree. The nearby Shirahige Falls (Shirahige-no-Taki) is also beautiful with its gently cascading waters, making it a great photo opportunity.
5. Hot Springs and Nature Activities: Near Tenninkyo Onsen 🌋
While a bit far from Biei Town, why not take a drive to Tenninkyo Onsen, located near Daisetsuzan National Park? Surrounding the hot spring town are stunning waterfalls like Hagoromo Falls and walking trails, making it a great place to relax in nature.
