Lenin Square is the starting point of Independence Avenue. The Government House is located on the north side of the square. It was the largest building in Belarus before World War II, and a seven-meter-high statue of Lenin stands in front of the building. The south side of the square is adjacent to the main building of Belarusian State University, which is the location of the Minsk Metro Administration. The clock on top of the building is considered the most accurate clock in Belarus. There is also a four-story underground city under Independence Square, with shopping, leisure, and entertainment facilities such as shopping streets, restaurants, cafes, and bowling alleys.
