
Shennongding Scenic Area, located within a nature reserve in southwestern Shennongjia, has been the site of numerous sightings of wild men. The scenic area boasts stunning subalpine scenery, with six peaks exceeding 3,000 meters. Known as the "Roof of Central China," it serves as the watershed between the Yangtze and Han Rivers.
The entire scenic area is a vast forest oxygen bar, with lush vegetation and gurgling streams. Here, you may even have the chance to see the rare golden snub-nosed monkey. Key attractions within the scenic area include Shennongding, the highest peak in Central China; the primeval forest of Jinhouling, a habitat for golden snub-nosed monkeys; the Scenic Pass Stone Forest; the Banbi Rock Forest; Monkey Rock; Taizi Pass; and the Lookout Tower Reserve.

The scenic area is open year-round, typically from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Best times to visit are April–June for spring foliage and September–October for autumn colors and clear weather.
Entrance fee is around 90–120 RMB per person, depending on the season. Tickets can be purchased online via official websites or at ticket offices on-site.

Start from the main entrance, take a cable car or hike to Shennongding Summit, descend via forest trails, visit Longtan Lake, then explore Shenlong Valley before returning.

Peak crowds occur during Chinese national holidays and summer. Least crowded times are weekdays in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October).
