Located in the central square of Brussels, Belgium, it was built in the 11th century and completed in the 17th century. During World War II, it was bombed by the French army, destroying most of the square's buildings. Only the facade and tower of the City Hall remain. The surrounding buildings were rebuilt in the following years, resulting in its present appearance.

The Grand-Place is Brussels' most important tourist attraction and landmark, and is considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Since 1998, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The square also frequently hosts many of the city's festivals and cultural events.
