A Futuristic Icon and Symbol of Brussels

We stepped into Brussels not quite sure what to expect just that it was historic, eclectic, and full of things we’d probably mispronounce. The kids were skeptical. Cities can go either way. But within minutes, they were off drawn in by comic murals, the scent of waffles in the air, and a giant metallic atom structure that looked like it landed from space.
One was halfway up a spiral staircase inside the Atomium before we caught up. The other was already sketching a Tintin rocket on the back of a receipt, determined to find every comic strip painted on city walls. We didn’t rush them. That’s the thing about this place—it’s not about ticking boxes. It’s about stumbling into things.
We wandered through grand squares and crooked streets, where gold-tipped buildings sat beside quirky art installations. A peeing statue drew more laughs than it probably deserved. Museums here didn’t whisper they played. There were hands-on science exhibits at Technopolis (we had to drag them away), surreal dreamscapes in the Magritte Museum, and a chocolate workshop where the kids made truffles and declared themselves artisans.
