[Onsen Prefecture Oita] I was overwhelmed by the power of the Fudo Triad that I saw right before my eyes [Kawanaka Fudo]

These rock-carved Buddha statues carved into a rolling rock🪨 in the Nagaiwaya River are said to have been created during the Muromachi period, and "Kawanaka Fudo" refers to the Fudo Trinity.

It is said that Fudo Myo-o was carved to calm the flooding that occurred every time heavy rain fell.


The Acala standing in the middle is 3.7m tall,
and on either side are Kongara Doji and Seitaka Doji, both 1.7m tall. You'll be awed by their imposing presence if you get up close.

Across from Kawanaka Fudo are Tennen-ji Temple and Onie no Sato Historical Museum, where you can also find meals.
Parking is free, so you can take your time exploring.
